To The Editor:

I have been a registered voter in both major political parties but have always voted independently for the person who I thought would be the best person for the job. As a registered Democrat, I have voted for a Republican, and as a registered Republican I have voted for a Democrat. I know there are some citizens who will only vote straight party-line for their registered party, regardless of which candidate is actually the better one for their family and their community. However, I believe most people vote the way I do, which is why we have had candidates from both parties winning elections.

I was dismayed to find the Independent Party of Newtown no longer has someone at the helm, so I am now registered as an Independent and have stepped forward to head Newtown’s Independent Party. Although I will lose the opportunity to vote in primaries, I felt someone truly independent should head Newtown’s Independent Party. At this late date, it has been hard for me to secure a meeting room to gather, but please contact me through the Independent Party’s website. Google search “Independent Party of Connecticut,” then navigate to the “Contact” heading, find “Newtown,” and you will see my name and email address. Please email me if you are an Independent interested in contacting me privately or through group emails to exchange thoughts and ideas.

Like myself, you may be an independent voter without being registered as an Independent. The Independent Party looks for candidates who will also be independent thinkers who will provide tax relief for homeowners and who will also not just vote their party’s stance on issues. The candidates we endorse will shake hands across the aisle, vote to not increase taxes, who will use common sense to solve the issues facing us.
