Maria C. DiVito, longtime resident of Sandy Hook and a former resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026. She was 93 years of age.

Born in Gallinaro, Italy, she was the daughter of Luigi and Laura Casale. She emigrated to the United States in 1947 as a teenager with her family and settled in Stamford. She carried with her a deep love of family, tradition, and good food, which she shared generously with anyone who crossed her path. Later in life she moved to Newtown, where she was a longtime member of St Rose of Lima Church.

Her family was her greatest accomplishment, and she found her joy in creating a warm and loving home where everyone had a seat at the table. She brought the traditions of her Italian upbringing into her house where food was an expression of love, and she never needed a recipe. Her happiest moments were surrounded by her family, but especially her grandchildren, who held a very special place in her heart.

She leaves behind a legacy measured not only in years but in generations of family who were nourished by her love and devotion. She is survived by daughters, Angela DeMarco and her husband Carter, Dina Sabia and her husband David; grandchildren Carter DeMarco (Kelsey), Daniel DeMarco (Amanda), Chelsea Blackiston (Brian), and Matthew Sabia (Alexis); and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Mario C. DiVito, sister Giovanna Broccoli, and brother Antonio Casale.

Friends are invited to calling hours Friday, August 21, from 5-8 pm, at Spadaccino & Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike in Monroe. A funeral service/memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday, August 22, at 11 am at St Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road in Newtown. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to St Jude Children's Hospital (stjude.org).
