With the Connecticut Democratic and Republican 2026 primaries now completed, the contests for state elections are fully focused on those hoping to be returned or elected to an office on November 3.

We now turn our eyes towards the final leg and the campaign season leading up to Election Day.

On Election Day, Newtown voters will face a choice between Republican challenger Ryan Fazio and Democratic incumbent Ned Lamont for governor; Democratic incumbent Jahana Hayes and Republican challenger Chris Shea for the US 5th District House of Representatives; Republican incumbent Mitch Bolinsky and Democratic challenger Michelle Embree Ku for the State 106th District House of Representatives; Democratic challenger Julie Kerton and Republican incumbent Martin Foncello for State 107th District House of Representatives; and Republican Amybeth Laroche and Democrat Rob Blanchard for State 32nd District Senate. The Newtown Bee will keep the public informed on releases from the candidates, as well as preview the races fully in October.

Additionally, The Newtown Bee has already seen a growing number of letters of endorsement this season. The primaries, particularly between Michelle Embree Ku and her challenger for the Democratic nomination, Brandon Moore, made staff feel like it was election season early with the deluge of support letters for both candidates.

With more eyes, hearts, and minds turning toward candidates and campaigns, this is a good time to remind readers of our policy concerning pre-election letters.

While the deadline for letters is noon sharp each Wednesday, we appreciate letters being sent in as soon as possible.

Contributors are reminded that residential addresses and phone numbers are required with every submission regardless of how many previous letters you may have sent, or how familiar we might be with you. That information must be included each time a letter is sent.

That information is NOT for publication. It is required for verification. The omission of one’s address and phone number could delay or prevent a letter from running as planned.

Letters are limited to two signatories. Letters arriving with three or more signatories will be held until the person submitting the letter pares it to two or one.

Endorsement letters are limited to 300 words.

Letters of endorsement will be accepted only through noon sharp Wednesday, October 28, for the October 30 print edition and online publication at NewtownBee.com.

Letters that do not attack, but may appropriately question or critique positions of specific candidates or the parties they represent — which might prompt or require a written rebuttal from candidates or those with differing political views — will not be considered for publication in the October 30 edition nor online. Outright attacks on a candidate will not be considered that week.

Each candidate is invited to submit a letter of self-endorsement/introduction, up to 500 words, on a one-time-only basis. Self-endorsing or introductory letters will be accepted for publication through noon sharp Wednesday, October 21, for publication that week. The Newtown Bee is considering the end of primary season a "reset" for the one letter of introduction, so that those candidates who had to campaign hard for their nomination are not at a disadvantage against candidates who were unchallenged.
