Failure To Grant Right Of Way
Newtown Police report Jane Vouros, 80, of Newtown, operating a 2010 Toyota Prius, was traveling southbound on Main Street at 4:04 pm August 2. William Sullivan, 38, of New Milford, operating a 2018 Dodge Charger, was traveling northbound on Main Street. Vouros made a left-hand turn in front of Sullivan and was struck by Sullivan's vehicle. Vouros' vehicle then struck a fence and a tree.
Vouros and a passenger in Sullivan's vehicle complained of minor injuries but declined transport. Vouros' vehicle was towed.
Vouros was issued a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way while making a left-hand turn.
Evading Vehicle Sought
Newtown Police report Deborah Stiewing, 77, of Newtown, operating a 0215 Mercedes-Benz C, was traveling westbound on Dodgingtown Road at 9:31 pm August 4. An unknown vehicle described as a light to medium blue large size pickup truck that may have had a white stripe, and had a loud engine, was traveling westbound on Dodgingtown Road behind Stiewing. Stiewing slowed to turn left into a parking lot and was rear-ended by the unknown vehicle, which left the scene by continuing to travel westbound on Dodgingtown Road.
Stiewing complained of soreness but declined medical attention. Stiewing's vehicle was not towed.

Both Vehicles Towed
Newtown Police report Melissa Baumann, 40, of Fishkill, N.Y., operating a 2025 Nissan Sentra, was pulling out from a parking lot on Church Hill Road at 8:56 pm August 5. Adam Rudman, 41, of Monroe, operating a 2021 Hyundai Tucson, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road. Baumann turned in front of Rudman's vehicle, and Rudman's vehicle struck Baumann's vehicle.
Baumann was transported to Danbury Hospital for possible minor injuries. Both vehicles were towed.
Baumann was issued a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way.
Following Too Close
Newtown Police report Grace Newsom, 18, of Newtown, operating a 2017 Toyota Rav4, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road and came to a stop for traffic ahead at 3:41 pm August 6. Jennifer Degreenia, 55, of Watertown, operating a 2023 Hyundai Kona, was stopped at the stop sign ahead of Newsom. Degreenia started to inch forward and Newsom rear-ended Degreenia's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Newsom was issued a verbal warning for following too close.
Collision In Parking Lot
Newtown Police report Melissa Ligouri, 42, of Monroe, operating a 2022 Jeep Compass, was backing out of a parking space in the parking lot at 6 Queen Street at 7:51 pm August 6. She backed into a 2020 Acura MDX owned by James Monroe of Sandy Hook that was traveling in the lot.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Hit Guardrail, Utility Pole, Car
Newtown Police report Nathan Kalonji, 29, of Bridgeport, operating a 2014 Nissan Altima, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 9:19 pm August 6. Nanda Medepalli, 27, of West Haven, operating a 2026 Toyota Camry, was stopped at a red light ahead of Kalonji. Kalonji said he attempted to stop but slid on the wet roadway and struck a guard rail and an Eversource utility pole before his vehicle rear-ended Medepalli's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Kalonji's vehicle was towed.
Kalonji was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Backed Into Car
Newtown Police report Jourdan Smith, 36, of Brookfield, operating a 2018 Honda Civic, was parked in a lot on Mt Pleasant Road at 12:12 pm August 13. A 2012 GMC Yukon owned by Karen Vaccaro of Beacon Falls was parked in the same lot. Smith backed into Vaccaro's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Trespass Charges
Newtown Police report that at 11:03 pm August 13, officers were dispatched to C.H. Booth Library for a report of a man trespassing and causing a disturbance on public property. While responding, officer were advised the man had left the area on foot and was last seen walking on West Street towards Castle Hill Road.
Officers located Peter Mihok, 28, of Newtown, walking on Castle Hill Road. Mihok was stopped and detained, however, he disobeyed lawful instructions from police officers and physically resisted arrest. Mihok was taken into custody and charged with second-degree breach of peace, second-degree criminal trespass, and interfering with an officer.
Mihok was released on a promise to appear with a court date of August 25 in Danbury Superior Court.
Three Car Collision
Newtown Police report Kayla La, 26, of Walden, N.Y., operating a 2014 Chrysler Town & Country, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road at 11:18 am August 14. She was traveling behind a 2017 Honda Accord operated by Daniel Griffiths, which in turn was behind a 2003 Toyota Camry operated by Michael Guasp. Guasp was traveling behind a non-contact vehicle that began repeatedly applying its brakes before abruptly stopping. Guasp braked and swerved to avoid a collision. Griffiths braked abruptly to avoid collision with Guasp, but was rear-ended by La and then pushed forward into Guasp's vehicle.
Griffiths was transported to Danbury Hospital for possible minor injuries. None of the vehicles were towed.
La was issued a verbal warning for following too close.
Uninsured, Unlicensed
Newtown Police report that during a routine motor vehicle stop at 6:11 pm August 14, it was determined that Orfa Garnica, 28, of New Haven, was driving without a license, no insurance, and while under suspension. Garnica was arrested and charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle without minimum insurance, operation of a motor vehicle while under suspension, and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
Garnica was released on a promise to appear with a court date of August 27 in Danbury Superior Court.
