Following Too Close
Newtown Police report Stephen Ruiz, 47, of Watertown, operating a 2021 Subaru Impreza, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 12:55 pm August 14. He was traveling behind a 2020 Ford Transit operated by Foad Khadroune, 22, of West Haven. Khadroune slowed to turn right onto Nighthawk Lane and the front of Ruiz's vehicle made contact with the back of Khadroune's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Ruiz's vehicle was towed.
Ruiz was issued a written warning for following too close.
Car Rear-Ends Tractor Trailer
Newtown Police report Derek Lewis, 25, of Bethel, operating a 2016 GMC Sierra, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 9:06 am August 17. He was traveling behind a 2017 Hino 999 tractor trailer operated by Manuel Caraballo, 55, of Yonkers, N.Y. A non-contact vehicle in front of Caraballo stopped to make a left turn into a driveway and Lewis did not stop in time, rear-ending Caraballo's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Lewis' vehicle was towed.
Lewis was issued a written warning for following too close.
Hit Parked Car, Arrested
Newtown Police report Jeanine Watson, 60, of Newtown, operating a 2020 Honda Civic, was traveling eastbound on Pole Bridge Road at 10:52 pm August 17. David Torres, 33, of Danbury, operating a 2022 Jeep Compass, was pulled to the side of the road on the westbound side due to a mechanical malfunction. Watson's vehicle crossed the double yellow line and struck Torres' vehicle. Police said Watson did not have an account of how that occurred.
No injuries were reported. Watson's vehicle was towed.
Watson was taken into custody and charged with failure to maintain a lane and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Collision At Red Light
Newtown Police report Terrence Sweeney, 63, of Redding, operating a 2021 Jeep Gladiator, was traveling eastbound on Sugar Street at 5:50 pm August 18. She was traveling behind a 2017 Mazda CX5 operated by Jose Nunez, 66, of Monroe, N.C. Nunez stopped for a red light and Sweeney rear-ended his vehicle.
Neither vehicle was towed. Nunez and a passenger in Nunez's vehicle reported possible injuries but both declined transport.
Sweeney was issued an infraction for following too close.
Left Roadway
Newtown Police report Elison Oliveira Da Silva, 52, of Danbury, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 10:11 pm August 19. The vehicle left the road and went into some vegetation, popping a tire before returning to the roadway.
Oliveira Da Silva was transported to Danbury Hospital with possible injuries. His vehicle was towed.
Oliveira Da Silva was issued a verbal warning for failure to maintain a lane.
Suspended License, Unregistered Car
Newtown Police report that on August 22, during a routine motor vehicle stop, officers determined that Joshua Cruddup, 36, of New Haven, was operating with a suspended motor vehicle license, in an unregistered vehicle with an improper license plate. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, misuse of marker plates, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Cruddup was released on a promise to appear with a court date of September 3 in Danbury Superior Court.
