Cheryl Ghent, 71, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2026 surrounded by her loving family.

Cheryl, born March 7, 1955, was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose family was her world. She will be remembered for the love, comfort, strength, and care she gave unconditionally to those around her. Always making those she loved feel protected, supported, and never alone.

Not only a dedicated mother, Cheryl also showed her endless supply of love through her work. In 1989 she was named Employee of the Year, an accomplishment in that time that spoke to her ethics, determination and peer respect she earned in her career.

Throughout the final season of her life Cheryl demonstrated tremendous courage, grace and strength. Even during difficult times, she continued on with unwavering determination, always surrounded by those she loved most. Her family takes solace in knowing she is now at peace, free from all the suffering and resting at last in the arms of god.

Cheryl leaves behind her children Alyssa Hunt, Kelela Wade and Brandon Ghent; her many beloved grandchildren; her brother William “Chip” Ghent and many extended family and friends who will cherish her memory.

She was predeceased by her beloved fiancé, Randy Cookson; her mother, Dorothy Ghent; her father, William Ghent and her brother, Peter Ghent.

Cheryl’s family will forever treasure her voice, her smile, her laughter and the countless mundane moments that became some of their most precious memories together. Her love of life and its many lessons will live on through her family.

Although her family yearned for more time, they are grateful for every hug, every laugh, every tear and every moment they were blessed to share with her.

In honoring Cheryl’s wishes and those of her family, we invite all to join us as we gather to honor and celebrate her beautiful life.

Please join us as we come together to share memories, find comfort in one another, and celebrate the incredible woman Cheryl was and the legacy of love she leaves behind.

In accordance with her wishes, we kindly ask guests to refrain from wearing black if at all possible. Instead, we encourage you to wear colors that reflect the love, warmth and vibrant spirit Cheryl brought into the lives of so many.

Services will be conducted at 11 am Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the United Methodist Church, 92 Church Hill Road, Sandy Hook.
