As summer begins to turn toward fall, one of nature’s greatest journeys quietly begins. Monarch butterflies prepare for their incredible migration to Mexico, while many native birds take to the skies for their own long journeys south. “Monarchs, Meadows & Migration” on Sunday, September 27, noon-2 pm, at Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary, 8 Commerce Road, celebrates these remarkable travelers and the healthy habitats they depend on along the way.

Guests will have the rare opportunity to participate in real monarch butterfly tagging, helping collect important migration data before these delicate pollinators begin their epic flight to Mexico. Families can also meet the broad-winged bird ambassadors from Christine’s Critters and learn how far these incredible birds travel each year and the challenges they face during migration.

Inside the sanctuary’s Discovery Den, “Bug’s Eye View” invites children and adults alike to step into the perspective of meadow insects through immersive insect costumes and interactive exploration. Discover how monarchs and other insects navigate during one of nature’s most astonishing migrations — a reminder that understanding wildlife sometimes means seeing the world through their eyes.

Throughout the day, families can enjoy meadow net sweeping and insect discovery, pollinator-inspired crafts, bird exploration activities, native pollinator plants for sale, and even launch seed bombs filled with pollinator-friendly plants across the sanctuary meadows. Guests will also have the opportunity to meet adoptable animals from a featured rescue organization.
