It's Long Past Time For A New Voice In Hartford
To The Editor:
I have personally known and admired Michelle Ku for a number of years but over the past few campaigns have learned, in depth, of her ability to listen to residents’ issues, weigh various solutions and take action. Michelle has made a practice of canvassing the residents of Newtown and I have been fortunate enough to have accompanied her on some of these visits and to witness her skills with people and decision making.
In these conversations, one of the primary subjects among Newtowners has been the issue of housing. With a PhD in science, Michelle is trained to look at evidence, weigh alternatives and follow data, rather than ideology. Instead of automatically following party lines, in her own words, she believes in leaving “partisan ideology at the chamber doors” and focusing on solutions. In 2025 she was openly critical of the Democrat-passed housing bill HB8002 due to critical gaps. She then went on to propose reforms to the bill, accessing coalition building with members of neighboring towns from both parties. Affordable healthcare and energy have also been an important part of her stated platform and prime topics of local conversations, recognizing that these costs hit out families twice: through rising premiums and out-of-pocket costs and again, through our property taxes where these are 2 of the fastest growing line items in the budget.
It’s long past time for a new voice in Hartford. After 12+ years of hands-on service to the people of Newtown, Michelle is intimately aware of our strengths, our weaknesses and our needs. I will be voting for Michelle Ku because she listens, she cares and then she takes action and gets things done. Please join me.
