A Champion For Children Who Learn Differently
To The Editor:
As a Newtown parent and advocate for children with dyslexia and other learning differences, I have had the privilege of connecting with State Representative Mitch Bolinsky over the years. I believe it is important to recognize people who truly listen and make themselves available to families in our community.
Whenever I have reached out to Mitch about issues affecting children with dyslexia, he has been approachable, responsive, and willing to listen. He takes the time to understand why these issues matter to families and what can be done at the state level. I have always appreciated his willingness to bring our concerns to Hartford and work with other legislators to find solutions.
Mitch has been a strong supporter of Decoding Dyslexia Connecticut (DDCT) and efforts to ensure children with dyslexia are identified earlier and receive evidence-based support. He was one of the bipartisan legislative leaders who helped create Connecticut’s Office of Dyslexia & Reading Disabilities in 2024, a significant step forward for children and families across our state.
But what stands out most to me is not any particular piece of legislation. It is the way Mitch has consistently shown up for these kids.
For families raising children with learning differences, navigating schools and finding the right support can be incredibly challenging. Mitch understands that behind every policy discussion is a child — a child who may be bright and capable but struggles to learn to read, and a family trying to find the support they need.
I also appreciate that his advocacy has not been partisan. He has worked across the aisle because supporting children should not be a political issue.
As an advocate, I know the difference it makes when a legislator is willing to listen and then act. Mitch Bolinsky has done that for our kids, and I am personally grateful for his continued commitment to making Connecticut a better place for children who learn differently.
