Evelyn M. Allen

Evelyn Murray Allen, 73, of Silver Spring, Md., formerly of Newtown, died December 18 in Charlottesville, Va. She was the wife of Frederick E. Allen of Silver Spring.

Mrs Allen was born in Bridgeport on March 20, 1930, a daughter of the late James and Gertrude Kiely Murray and graduated from Bridgeport High School. She was a resident of Ridgefield for 33 years before moving to Newtown in 1996 and then to Silver Spring. She was employed as an executive secretary for Perkin Elmer for eight years, and later was a bookkeeper for a local home construction business in Danbury. She was a former member of the Newtown Congregational Church, and enjoyed gardening in her spare time.

Besides her husband, Mrs Allen is survived by a son, William F. Allen of North Bethesda, Md.; a daughter, Leslie M. Hartten of Northglenn, Colo.; a brother, John Murray and his wife, Winnie, of Greenville, Texas; and a granddaughter, Katherine Hartten. She was predeceased by her brother James Murray.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Fairfield County Chapter, 607 Main Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06851.

The funeral service will be held at the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division Street, Danbury, on Monday, December 29, at 11 am. Burial will be in Ridgebury Cemetery, Ridgefield.

The family will receive friends at the Hull Funeral Home, during the hour preceding the service on Monday, December 29, from 10 to 11 am.
