Massillon E. LaPorte, center, plays “Taps” for gathered members of the Newtown United Methodist Church, and confirmands, Monday, December 14, at the memorial to 12/14 behind St John’s Episcopal Church on Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook Center.

This is the third year Mr LaPorte, a classical trumpet player at a cathedral in Montreal, Quebec, and father of two young girls, has traveled to Sandy Hook on the anniversary of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School to share his talents and express his condolences, because, as he explained through a conversation in French and some English, he finds it hard to comprehend how the events of 12/14 could happen to innocent little children.

Mr LaPorte arrived at Newtown United Methodist Church this weekend, where he has made friends from the past two years. On Sunday, he joined members of the church visiting Nunnawauk Meadows, accompanying carolers on his trumpet.
