Fire Hydrant Snow Clearance Urged
Fire Hydrant Snow Clearance Urged
With the coming of winter snowstorms, Fire Marshal Bill Halstead urges that people who live near or who do business near fire hydrants to clear away accumulated snow and plowed snow from the hydrants.
Creating a cleared area around the fire hydrants will provide firefighters with good access to the hydrants in the event that they are needed as a water source for firefighting. Mr Halstead recommends that snow be cleared away from hydrants for five feet in all directions.
Also, snow should be cleared away from so-called âdry hydrants,â which typically are positioned near fire ponds and near the underground water storage tanks that are used for firefighting in residential subdivisions, according to the fire marshal.
