Newtown Federation Of Teachers

Praises Its Peers

The Newtown Federation of Teachers has made note of the following achievements by some of its members:

Newtown Middle School Newspaper Club advisor Susan Lang and Technology Team advisor Jennifer Tarabulski attended a workshop October 3 presented by Fox 61 news on student-produced news stories. Ms Tarabulski leads professional development workshops for teachers districtwide. Her most recent offerings have included workshops on using the district’s email server, Rubric Maker and Teacher Web. Ms Lang and Ms Tarabulski plan to team up the Newspaper and Technology Club to produce news stories for submission to Fox 61 for possible airplay and prizes.

Newtown Middle School teachers Wendy Bowen, Ron Chivinski, Julie Farias, Susan Lang, Oona Mulligan, Linda Dale Mulholland, Alice Privalaski, Ray Shupenis, and Fran Simone attended the Developing Comprehensive Reporting Systems for Student Grading conference. The attendees shared the information they learned with colleagues during a Newtown staff development meeting November 4.

Newtown Middle School Guidance Counselor Susan Connelly has used the lessons she gleaned from an extensive crisis intervention workshop in summer 2001 with 50 district crisis team members. Under Ms Connelly’s direction, the team focused on delivering crisis intervention debriefing sessions and made classroom presentations to students and staff on how to prepare for an school/district/community crisis.
