Moving Violations

Police report that at about 6:30 pm on May 22, they spotted motorist Steven A. Petrella, 47, of 20 Housatonic Drive driving a vehicle on Walnut Tree Hill Road which had no front marker plate on it, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police charged Petrella with failure to display a marker plate, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving while under suspension, and driving without automotive insurance.

After processing, police released Petrella on a written promise to appear June 6 in Danbury Superior Court.

Dangerous Intersection

A two-vehicle crash occurred at the hazardous intersection of South Main Street and Orchard Hill Road about 6 pm May 22.

Motorist Sean Currier, 31, of Gainesville, Fla., who was driving a 1983 Chevrolet van, attempted to pull out from Orchard Hill Road onto South Main Street, but collided with motorist Norma Ortega, 38, of Danbury, who was driving a 2002 Ford Taurus southward on South Main Street, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Currier for failure to grant the right of way.

Rear-Ender

About 6:40 am May 22, westbound motorist Loren Thompson, 41, of Buttonball Drive, who was driving a 1989 Ford truck, stopped on Wasserman Way and was waiting for eastbound traffic to clear to allow the Ford to turn left onto Nunnawauk Road, when the Ford was struck from behind by westbound motorist Thomas McGowan, 52, of Oxford, who was driving a 2003 Mercedes-Benz sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued McGowan an infraction ticket for traveling at an unsafe distance.

Pickup Vs Pickup

An accident involving two pickup trucks occurred about 10:45 am May 20 at the hazardous intersection of Route 34 and Berkshire Road.

Motorist Ian Pharo, 32, of 59 Algonquin Trail, who was driving a 1989 Ford pickup truck, was making a left turn from eastbound Route 34 onto Pole Bridge Road, when the Ford collided head-on with a 1986 Dodge pickup truck being driven westward on Route 34 by William Jennings, Jr, 41, of Ansonia, police said.

There were no injuries. Pharo received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way. Jennings received a misdemeanor ticket for failure to have automotive insurance.

Church Hill Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident near 61 Church Hill Road about 4:45 pm May 18, in which one of the two vehicles left the scene of the crash.

Police said the accident involved Ellen Kratzer, 49, of Roxbury, who was driving a 2002 Toyota station wagon, and an unknown other driver, who left the scene after the accident occurred. Kratzer was not injured, police said. Police gave her a written warning for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Boulevard Crash

About 9 pm May 18, motorist Casey Gilbert, 17, of 79 Cedar Hill Road, who was driving a 1998 Jeep station wagon northward on the Boulevard, slid on some wet pavement, crossed the road and then struck guardrailing along the southbound road shoulder, police said. Neither Gilbert, nor two passengers, were injured, police said. Gilbert received a written warning for failure to drive to the right on a curve.

Harassment

Police said that on May 22, after learning that police held an arrest warrant, a youth under age 16 came to the police station and was arrested on a charge of second-degree harassment. The arrest stems from an April complaint. Details on the incident were not available.

The identities of people under age 16 charged with crimes are shielded from public disclosure by police. The youth was released on a promise to appear June 5 in Danbury Juvenile Court.
