Award-Winning Poet To Read From His Work

WATERBURY — Poet Jeffrey Skinner will read from his work at University of Connecticut’s Waterbury campus, 99 East Main Street, on Tuesday, October 24, at 12:30 pm. The reading is open to the public, free of charge.

Mr Skinner has published five collections of poetry: Late Stars, A Guide to Forgetting (a winner in the 1987 National Poetry series), The Company of Heaven, Gender Studies and Salt Water Amnesia, his most recent, published in 2005.

Of this latest volume, Henry Berry, in Midwest Book Review, says: “Skinner continually brings to mind — brings back to mind — moments everyone has experienced physically or in thought, but has not had the time or made the effort to reflect much on … Skinner leads one to familiarity with aspects of one’s life, often aspects one has missed, sometimes neglected.”

Mr Skinner’s poems have appeared in many magazines including The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The Nation, and others.

In addition to his work as a poet, he has written plays that have been produced in New York City, Ohio and Kentucky.

Currently Mr Skinner is professor of creative writing at University of Louisville. He is also co-founder and editorial consultant for Sarabande Books.

Contact the Waterbury campus’s main office at 203-236-9800 for additional information.
