Hunting For Newtown Authors And Illustrators
Hunting For Newtown
Authors And Illustrators
If you are a Newtown author or book illustrator, the C.H. Booth Library wants to know so it can celebrate you.
In recognition of the literary, cultural, and artistic contributions made by Newtown authors and book illustrators, the library is hosting a champagne reception Saturday, June 9, from 2 to 4 pm in the meeting room of the library.
Celebrating Newtown Authors and Illustrators will also highlight the libraryâs Newtown Authors Collection, which includes 230 titles by 115 authors who live or lived in Newtown. The noncirculating, special section on the third floor was established 25 years ago by library curator Caroline Stokes, who has continued to maintain the collection.
It is the libraryâs goal to have each authorâs and illustratorâs favorite work in the collection by the time of the celebration. Any author or illustrator who has lived in Newtown and published at least one book and would like to participate in the celebration or contribute to the Newtown Authors Collection is invited to contact Andrea Zimmermann at the library at 426-8552 or boothref@biblio.org (attn: Andrea).
Newtown resident and author Mary Mitchell has researched 39 local authors represented in the collection and written biographies on each. To make this resource more comprehensive, the library is also gathering biographical information on all living authors and illustrators, which will be bound to accompany the special collection.
The reception will be open to public with registration. Call 426-4533 to register to attend the reception.
