Occupation: I am senior software engineer for NEC Infrontia Inc in Shelton, where we have been helping develop telephone systems for the past 25 years. My second job is my own videography company called KLab Productions. It’s named after my two daughters Katharine Bobel and Laura Ashley Bobel.

I’m out during the evenings working as videographer for KLab Productions, shooting footage of informational community programs for later broadcast over Newtown Public Access Channel 21.

In 1999, I began videotaping shows for the New England Ballet Company in Orange, and I’d like to get into doing more weddings.

While I was going to college, I realized how much I enjoyed photography. I worked in journalism for a while, as a photographer at the Danbury News-Times and on assignment for both the Associated Press (AP) and Newsweek magazine, but I soon realized I could not support a family by photography alone.

How Long In Newtown: I’ve lived here 18 years, always in Sandy Hook. I’m from Danbury originally. I first found Newtown when I was looking to live in a town that was a reasonable commute to my job in Shelton.

 

Biggest Change You Have Seen In Town: I would have to say it’s the number of people living here and the traffic. Getting out onto Route 34 is really getting hard.

 

Family: My wife Carol and I have two daughters. Katharine is 21 and Laura Ashley is 18.

 

Pets: We have a rabbit that is trained to go to a litter box. He enjoyed sitting under the Christmas tree and pruning it, and he’s quite tame. His official name is Squirt Rabinowitz. He’s the only other male in the house besides me.

 

Favorite TV Show, Movie, Book: I like Law and Order, West Wing, and Third Watch. You can see I’m into lawyer stuff. From a videographer’s point of view, I’m really interested in how they film these shows for TV. I think C.S.I. is a little too graphic.

For books, I’m reading The King of Torts by John Grisham, and I’ve got Ken Follett’s Hornet Flight on the back burner.

 

Organizations: We are members of St Rose of Lima Church.

 

Most Vivid Memory About Newtown: I remember making and flying kits at the Ram Pasture with my kids a few years ago when they were younger.

Favorite Vacation Spot: We like to go to Disney World. We’d be there right now, except there are too many other demands on our time. When kids get older it’s hard to drag them away from their activities. But we have a lot of family memories of being away together there.

We also enjoyed going to California and Yosemite National Park a few years ago.

 

Personal Philosophy: I’m content with my lot in life. I find as you grow older, your family becomes very important.

 I believe in live and let live, and I try to do my best in most things.
