Shelton Police Lodge Tampering, Bribery Charges
SHELTON â Shelton police detectives on March 17 arrested April Hanna, 35, of Mountain Manor Road, Sandy Hook, charging her with tampering with a witness and also with bribery of a witness.
In a statement, Shelton police Detective Robert Kozlowsky said that Hanna was released on $20,000 bail and is scheduled to appear for arraignment April 3 in Derby Superior Court.
Hannaâs arrest stems from a sexual assault complaint that was filed by a 19-year-old female victim in February, Det Kozlowsky said. The unidentified victim told police that a male named âJackâ had shown her an apartment in Shelton, and that while she was in the apartment, Jack had talked to her in a sexual way and also had touched her in sexual ways, according to the police detective.
The victim then reported to police that she was contacted by April Hanna, the wife of Jack, and was offered money if she would drop the sexual assault complaint, Det Kozlowsky said.
The victim and April Hanna then allegedly negotiated a deal for $5,000 to drop the sexual assault complaint, according to police.
April Hanna agreed to meet the victim and give her $2,500 up-front, according to Det Kozlowsky.
Shelton police detectives then set up surveillance and watched the transaction occur, he said. The detectives then arrested April Hanna and seized the $2,500 as evidence, Det Kozlowsky said.
The original sexual assault complaint remains under investigation, he said.
