‘Rochambeau In Connecticut’

WASHINGTON GREEN — In commemoration of the 234th anniversary of one of the most important events in French-American History — the signing of the French-American Alliance February 6, 1778 in Paris — Gunn Memorial Museum will host the lecture “Rochambeau in Connecticut” and a book signing with author Jini Jones Vail Saturday February 4, at 1 pm.

Ms Jones, the author of Rochambeau: Washington’s Ideal Lieutenant, A French General’s Role in the American Revolution, will recall the history of the unprecedented alliance between Jean Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur Comte de Rochambeau and General George Washington, an improbable victory and “the true story behind our nation’s incredible birth.” Rochambeau and his troops traversed Connecticut in 1781, on their way to join forces in New York with Washington.

The museum is at 5 Wykeham Road, just off Route 47 and adjacent to Gunn Memorial Library. Snow date will be February 11; for information, call 860-868-7756 or visit GunnLibrary.org.
