Local students in grades 6-12 were invited to attend an event at C. H. Booth Library on Wednesday, December 2, to celebrate the movie release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, which opened in theaters on November 20.

The movie is the fourth, and final, in the Hunger Games film series, and it is based on the book Mockingjay by author Suzanne Collins.

Young Adult Librarian Kim Weber hosted the event in the library's Meeting Room.

Near the start of the celebration students worked on crafts, like making their own badges and pins. Later the students broke into two teams to compete in a Jeopardy-style game that quizzed the participants on their knowledge of The Hunger Games book series and movies. Categories included "Who's Who in District 12," "Food For Thought" and "Panem's Got Talent."

A Cornucopia Challenge was also held near the end of the event. According to Ms Weber, participants were tasked with running to choose an item from inside a cornucopia individually, before a story was read with some of the items available mentioned in the story. For each item mentioned, Ms Weber said,  points were awarded.

"I like The Hunger Games. They are really good," said sixth grader Madison Benson, a member of the library's Young Adult Council.

Seventh grader and fellow Young Adult Council member Juliana Miraldi agreed.

"The story is really captivating," Juliana said, while crafting.

Hot chocolate, popcorn, and chocolate cupcakes were served during the event, and bookmarks with characters from the movie pictured on them were available for participants.

Brothers Sebastian, left, and Kristian Colon worked to craft badges during C.H. Booth Library's celebration event, held on December 2, for the movie release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.
Newtown High School senior Max Schoetz oversaw a Jeopardy-style game that quized two participated teams of students on their The Hunger Games knowledge.
