St Johnâs Choir To Premieres New Christmas Cantata To Benefit The Womenâs Center
NEW MILFORD â The choir of St Johnâs Episcopal Church On the Green, at 7 Whittlesey Avenue in New Milford, will offer a special concert on Sunday, December 18, at 3 pm, to benefit The Womenâs Center.
The program features the premiere of the new work, âMother and Child, A Christmas Cantata,â composed by St Johnâs music director, Zoe Vandermeer (pictured), especially for the occasion and dedicated to the Womenâs Center. The musical styles of the work can be compared to Lloyd Webberâs Pie Jesu, Carmina Burana by Orff, and Brittenâs Ceremony of Carols.
Christmas favorites include gentle carols with Vandermeerâs celtic harp accompaniment to well known works such as the Laudamus Te from Vivaldiâs Gloria and Purcellâs Sound the Trumpet. Soloists include Carolyn King, Sharlene Zagozewski and Zoe Vandermeer.
The Womenâs Center provides free and confidential services to prevent or lessen the trauma associated with domestic violence, sexual assault and other major life transitions to thousands of women, children and men annually. The programs of the Womenâs Center are supported by state and local government, area United Way agencies and the people and businesses in the communities we serve including Bethel, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Danbury, Kent, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, Redding, Ridgefield, Roxbury, Sherman, Warren and Washington.
Suggested donation for Sunday is $15.
