Performance To Benefit Women’s Center—

St John’s Choir To Premieres New Christmas Cantata To Benefit The Women’s Center

NEW MILFORD — The choir of St John’s Episcopal Church On the Green, at 7 Whittlesey Avenue in New Milford, will offer a special concert on Sunday, December 18, at 3 pm, to benefit The Women’s Center.

The program features the premiere of the new work, “Mother and Child, A Christmas Cantata,” composed by St John’s music director, Zoe Vandermeer (pictured), especially for the occasion and dedicated to the Women’s Center. The musical styles of the work can be compared to Lloyd Webber’s Pie Jesu, Carmina Burana by Orff, and Britten’s Ceremony of Carols.

Christmas favorites include gentle carols with Vandermeer’s celtic harp accompaniment to well known works such as the Laudamus Te from Vivaldi’s Gloria and Purcell’s Sound the Trumpet. Soloists include Carolyn King, Sharlene Zagozewski and Zoe Vandermeer.

The Women’s Center provides free and confidential services to prevent or lessen the trauma associated with domestic violence, sexual assault and other major life transitions to thousands of women, children and men annually. The programs of the Women’s Center are supported by state and local government, area United Way agencies and the people and businesses in the communities we serve including Bethel, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Danbury, Kent, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, Redding, Ridgefield, Roxbury, Sherman, Warren and Washington.

Suggested donation for Sunday is $15.

Contact  Zoe Vandermeer at zoevandermeer@sbcglobal.net or call St. John’s Episcopal Church, 860-354-5583, for additional information.
