Treadwell Vandalism
Someone illegally entered Treadwell Park at 19 Philo Curtis Road in Sandy Hook overnight on August 15-16 and caused more than $1,200 worth of property damage, police report.
The vandals damaged some goals on athletic fields, as well as damaged some sports nets.
Also, the vandals threw one exploding M-80 firecracker into the swimming pool and threw another other exploding M-80 firecracker near the swimming pool gate, police said.
The park intrusion occurred sometime between 10:30 pm Wednesday, August 15, and 6 am Thursday, August 16. Damage is estimated at $1,225.
The acts constitute second-degree criminal mischief and simple trespassing. The park is closed to the public overnight.
Police ask anyone with information about the vandalism to contact investigating Officer Steve Borges at the police station at 426-5841.
Subaru Vs Hyundai
A two-vehicle accident occurred at the 139 Toddy Hill Road driveway entrance to Ashlar of Newtown about 5:30 pm August 15, according to police.
Southbound motorist Robert Bequillard, 55, of Winsted, who was driving a 2006 Hyundai Elantra sedan, slowed in order to make a left turn into the driveway, police said.
Southbound motorist Kris Rodgerson, 26, of Monroe, who was driving a 1999 Subaru Legacy station wagon, then struck the Hyundai from behind, police said.
There were no injuries. Rodgerson received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Honda Hits Guardposts
Motorist Thomas J. Poirier, III, 17, of Ansonia was driving a 1992 Honda Accord sedan southward near 191 South Main Street about 7 am August 14, when the vehicle went off the southbound road shoulder and struck guardposts, causing it spin about, police said.
The area lies north of South Main Streetâs intersection with Ethan Allen Road. Poirier was not injured. Poirier received a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Van Hits SUV
About 12:30 pm August 15, motorist Elizabeth Gattey, 38, of Diamond Drive, who was driving a 1998 Dodge van, drove into the rear end of a 2004 Jeep sport-utility vehicle driven by Robert Onofri, 47, of Hebron, police said. The collision occurred at the end of westbound Interstate 84âs Exit 10 off-ramp, police said.
There were no injuries. Police gave Gattey a written warning for following too closely.
Unsafe Backing
Police report an accident at the busy intersection of South Main Street and Mile Hill Road about 1:21 pm August 9.
In that incident, trucker Theodore Smith, 51, of Woodbury was driving a commercial 1995 Mack 600 dump truck, which was hauling a trailer, police said. The Mack/trailer, which was stopped on Mile Hill Road, rolled backward and struck the front end of a stopped 2005 Volkswagen Jetta, which was driven by Scott Sanders, 44, of Milford, police said.
There were no injuries. Smith was verbally warned for unsafe backing.
Glover Avenue
Police report a two-vehicle accident near 1 Glover Avenue about 4:45 pm August 10.
The accident, which occurred in the westbound lane of Glover Avenue, involved motorist Derek Friedlander, 17, of 22 Taunton Lake Drive, who was driving a 1999 Ford Explorer sport-utility vehicle, and motorist David Tokarski, 22, of 172 Boggs Hill Road, who was driving a 2004 Subaru Impreza station wagon, police report.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Friedlander a written warning for a right-of-way violation.
Moving Violation
About 12:30 pm August 18, police saw motorist Michael Griffin, 42, of Naugatuck driving a vehicle that had no front marker plate on Glen Road, near its intersection with Walnut Tree Hill Road, so they stopped him to investigate.
Police then charged Griffin with driving while under suspension. After processing the case, police released Griffin from their custody on $100 bail for an August 31 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Chevrolet Vs Toyota
Police report a motor vehicle accident in the congested area on Church Hill Road near the Blue Colony Diner. The area has a high accident rate due to heavy traffic volume and much turning traffic.
About 6 pm August 13, motorist David Silhanek, 71, of West Lebanon, N.H., who was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu, collided with motorist Kathleen Williams, 50, of Cheshire, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla, police report. There were no injuries. Silhanek received a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Minivan Vs Deer
About 9:15 pm August 10, motorist Margaret McIntyre, 45, of 10 Shepaug Road was driving a 1994 Ford Aerostar minivan westward near 18 Riverside Road, when a deer leapt onto the street, resulting in a collision, said police. Neither McIntyre, nor three passengers, were injured, police said.
Heroin Arrest
Police said they conducted a brief investigation into the presence of narcotics at 31 Lakeview Terrace early on the morning of August 19, and then charged Ryan Knapp, 19, of that address, with illegal possession of heroin.
After processing the arrest, police released Knapp on $250 bail for a September 4 court appearance.
Drug Case
Police report that while on patrol about 11:25 am August 19, they spotted a woman who appeared to be unconscious in parked vehicle at the end of the dead-end Commerce Road, so they investigated.
Police said that the investigation turned up the presence of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Police said they lodged five charges against the occupant of the vehicle, Sarah Lewis, 26, of 4 Shepaug Road. Police charged Lewis with possession of narcotics, possession of a controlled substance, failure to keep prescription narcotics in their original container, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving with a suspended license.
Police later released Lewis on $250 bail for an August 31 court appearance.
Warrant
Police report they charged Karyn Anderson, 22, of Bridgeport on a warrant on the afternoon of August 20 stemming from an incident that occurred last November 24.
Police charged Anderson with second-degree failure to appear in court, driving while under suspension, and with a headlamp violation.
Police released Anderson on $1,000 bail for a September 6 court appearance.
Breach of Peace
Police said they arrested Richard Soderquist, 57, of 15 Dayton Street on a warrant on August 20, lodging a charge of breach of peace in connection with a dispute that occurred July 16 on Edgelake Drive in the Riverside section.
After he posted $100 bail, police released Soderquist for a September 5 court appearance.
Toddy Hill Accident
Police report they are investigating an accident that apparently occurred early on the morning of August 19 along Toddy Hill Road.
 Police said they went to the area about 3:30 am and found that a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta sedan had driven off the southbound road shoulder and landed on a stone wall. The vehicle also apparently had struck a utility pole, police said.
There was no one at the accident scene when they arrived, police said. The vehicle is registered to a Bear Hills Road resident, according to police. The matter is under investigation.
House Burglary
A burglary occurred at a home on Head Oâ Meadow Road, near that streetâs intersection with Castle Hill Road, sometime between 3:15 and 4 pm on August 20, according to police patrol Officer Colin Richter, who is investigating the crime.
Someone illegally entered the premises and stole unspecified items. The incident constitutes third-degree burglary, which is a felony, as well as second-degree criminal trespassing, and sixth-degree larceny. The loss is estimated at less than $250.
