Louis E. Barney

Sharon Town Constable

And Town Volunteer

Louis E. Barney, 85, of Sharon, formerly of New Milford, husband of the late Helen (Bosomera) Barney and the late Ida (Ballard) Barney, died March 8 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Mr Barney was born in New Milford, June 10, 1920, son of Sylvester B. and Eva (Thompson) Barney.

Five sons and their spouses, Kenneth and Charlene Barney of Sandy Hook, Louis and Ruby Barney of Danbury, Arthur and Roberta Barney of Charlotte, N.C., Louis and Beverly Barney of Chesnee, S.C., and Thomas and Marie McCarthy of Fairlee, Vt.; three daughters and their spouses, Helen and Frank Meyer of Patterson, N.Y., Louann and Thomas Lango of Mulberry, Fla., and Joann and Danny Walley, of Sharon; a brother, Austin Barney of Sharon; a sister, Shirley McDougall of Maine; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews survive. A brother, Sylvester “Buster” Barney, preceded him in death.

Mr Barney attended New Milford schools and resided in the New Milford and Sharon area all of his life.

An upholsterer by trade, Mr Barney was employed with the former Eastern Lounge Company of New Milford in early years and later became a foreman with the former Castro Convertible Company of Danbury. Upon the relocating of the Castro Convertible Company, Mr Barney then established his own upholstery and decorating business, Lou Barney’s Upholstery and Decorating of Sharon.

He was a member of the Sharon Volunteer Fire Department, served as town constable for the past 40 years, and was a volunteer with the Sharon Senior Citizen program.

Graveside funeral services took place in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury, on March 14.
