Three Youths Charged In Brush With Police

Police report they charged three 17-year-old youths with criminal offenses late on the night of Friday, August 25, following an incident near the intersection of Main Street and Currituck Road.

Police charged each of the three with criminal attempt to commit third-degree assault, interfering with police, and disorderly conduct.

Charged were twin brothers Adam J. Samuels and Amel J. Samuels, both of 128 Hanover Road, and Brian D. Shepard, of 1 Glover Avenue.

At 11:49 pm, police were dispatched to a report of an assault in progress at a party being held at a Currituck Road home. On the way to that address, Officer Louis Ferreira saw the three youths walking quickly toward Main Street, police said.

Shepard appeared to have been assaulted, according to police.

Officer Ferreira attempted to interview the three youths and the youths began shouting obscenities and threats at him, made threatening movements at him, and attempted to surround him, police said.

Police dispatched more officers to the incident and the three youths were taken into custody, police said.

Shepard was transported to Danbury Hospital to be treated for injuries he had received in the assault at the party, police said. Police said Shepard had told them several people at the party had attacked him.

Police said Officer Dan Cacace received a knee injury as he took Adam Samuels into custody. Cacace was treated at Danbury Hospital and released, police said.

The three youths, who were each released on a $5,000 bond, are scheduled to answer the charges September 12 in Danbury Superior Court.
