Many Help To Make

Workshops A Success

To the Editor:

On March 12th, 2005, the Newtown Junior Women’s Club and the Newtown Board of Education presented its 13th annual Discovery Science, Math & Technology Workshops at the Newtown High School. Thanks to the many volunteers and donors whose generosity allowed this program to be provided free of charge to over 250 children.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the workshop leaders: Caitlin Baird, Jim Barber, Susan Barbaratto, Dr John Boruso, Jim Boyle, Chane Cullens, Tanya Cutolo, Dan Dalton, Jennifer Donnelly, Liz Elia, Dr Jack Fong, Deryl Gaier, Tegan Goldson, Kristen Goncalves, Diane Goodrich, Steve Hoffman, Mat Kastner, Ted and Alison Makuch, Alan, Ian and Alison McEmber, Randi Miller, Bob Mitchell, Anna Moses, Newtown Emergency Medical Services, Bob Nute, Dr Debra Pollack-Wollman, Dr Rita Powers, Theresa Rangel, Mary Jac Reed, Rich Robinson, Michael Salvatore, Dr Steven Sieber, David Smith, Mike and Eric Stackpole from CTRA-NARCONN, Elizabeth Stevens, Laurie Veillette, Dr Daniel Wollman, and April Ziegler.

We would also like to thank the many students who spent their snowy, Saturday morning assisting NJWC in every capacity from escorting and/or babysitting our children, assisting leaders and moving chairs. The list includes: Sonja Taylor, Jessica and Matt Biscoe, Kate Fielding, Quincey Blanchard, Steven Oberstadt, Kelly Corrigan, Meaghan Addessi, Alison and Ian McEmber, Jennifer Greenwood, Kevin Mojoros, Rodrigo DeSouza, John and Jimmy O’Brien, Kevin McManus, Ryan Manning, and Collin Babbage.

Additionally, we would like to thank the following donors: Dunkin’ Donuts on Queen Street, Starbucks and Bagel Delight on Church Hill Road, Doughnut Hut on South Main Street, Payless Shoes, and Cathy Robinson of Cadbury-Schweppes.

We are very grateful to the helpful staff of the Newtown High School: Pat Llodra, Rich Novia, Tom Kuroski, Carmela Amadeo, and Jimmy Young.

And of course, many thanks to all who attended and supported the Scholastic Book Fair. The proceeds help fund this program, as well as our Back-to-School Back Pack Program, Tag-A-Gift Program, and Time for Life.

We hope everyone had an enjoyable experience discovering the joy and wonder of science, math, and technology. Our hope is that your children have learned that science, math, and technology can be fun.

Sincerely,

Charlene Calandro
