Rose Dowd Sasanoff, 95, of Newtown, died April 18, in Danbury Hospital. She was born in Holyoke, Mass., May 16, 1917, daughter of Edward and Zorah Rogers Dowd.
She lived in New Canaan for more than 40 years before moving to Newtown a decade ago.
Mrs Sasanoff held a masterâs degree in theater from Hunter College of the City University of New York, 1972, and a CAS in interdisciplinary students at Wesleyan University, Middletown, 1978. She attended the Wilton Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends.
Mrs Sasanoff taught English and drama at the New Canaan high school for more than 23 years. She wrote and directed plays, published award-winning short stories and two volumes of poetry. She was a member of the International Womenâs Writing Guild. As an actress, she performed at the Powerhouse Theatre in New Canaan and throughout Fairfield County. Since 1988 she worked as a volunteer at AmeriCares and taught creative writing at Lapham Community Center.
Survivors are daughter Katharine Sasanoff Holt of Newtown, David Thomson of Washington, Michael Thomson of Hartford, two grandsons, and two great grandchildren.
