What personal qualities do you have that you believe will benefit the Legislative Council? ââ Having been in the financial services industry for 18 years, and running my own company for the past 21/2Â years, I have tremendous experience in the budgeting process as well as the organizational and leaderships skills necessary to serve on the Legislative Council. I am enthusiastic, dedicated, and hard working.
What will be the councilâs biggest challenge in the next two years? ââ There are numerous important issues facing Newtown over the next two years, including Fairfield Hills, economic development, rising taxes and environmental concerns regarding land use and the aquifer. The biggest challenge is to hear the voices of all the people in Newtown, so that the solutions reflect our collective opinion, not that of any special interest.
Do you favor economic development at Fairfield Hills, or should the campus be used solely for municipal purposes? ââ I favor a mixed-use approach at Fairfield Hills: Municipal use, open space, recreation and economic development. I do not favor using any of Fairfield Hills for residential development. Most important, however, is the development of a solid, long-term plan that would be approved be the town and then properly implemented.
The proposed changes to the charter may fail on November 6 because of confusion and concern over the need to implement the changes in just 30 days because of a clerical error. Would you be willing to re-appoint a charter revision commission next year to bring these changes before the public again a year from now so that they may be considered solely on their merits? â Yes, this is an important matter that deserves further attention.
