Gunnery Honors Newtown Student At Convocation
WASHINGTON â Benjamin Greenfield, a senior at The Gunnery, was named highest scholar for the 2005-06 Junior Class at the 157th Convocation held at the First Congregational Church Meeting House on Washington Green on Sunday, September 10. Benjamin is the son of Dr Jonathan T. and Dr Amy W. Greenfield of Newtown.
The Gunneryâs Convocation marks the formal beginning of the school year with attendance by the whole school community. It includes welcomes from Head of School Susan Graham and the head of student government, Senior Prefect Sean Kelly, prayers for the success of the school year, and the singing of The Gunnery hymn.
Kevin Tarsa of New Milford was named highest scholar for last yearâs freshman class. Gregory Jack of Watertown received the honor for the sophomore class. Gregory also was honored as the top scholar for the previous school year.
Three teachers received honors. The Hamilton Gibson Chair for Excellence in the Humanities was awarded to Nick Benson, member of the English faculty. Karen Lincoln, chair of the language department, received the Tisch Chair for Excellence in Teaching. The Class of â55 Distinguished Teacher Award was presented to Jarrod Sisk, who teaches mathematics and economics.
