Celebrating Connecticut trails day locally on June 1, Newtown Forest Association (NFA) members will conduct a two-mile hike near Sandy Hook Center.

The guided two-mile spring hike at the Wasserman Preserve will cover a segment of Al’s Trail and NFA property. Newtown’s hike is one of the more than 250 planned throughout the state that day. Join NFA member Aaron Coopersmith at the footbridge on Dayton Street at 12:30 pm. Bring water, a snack or lunch, and appropriate footwear.

The hike “will be moderate to strenuous,” states an NFA press release. The path will cross the Rocky Glen and Church Hill Road onto Dayton Street, and follow the trail to the end near the footbridge.

There will be time for water and lunch during a stop along the hike; bring your own.

“It’s a short hike, but not for young children. This is not a stroll…” The group will stop to enjoy “a great view at the top,” he said. Meet at the Dayton Street trailhead, just off the footbridge; Dayton Street is off Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center.

Registration is not necessary. Rain will cancel the hike.

Any changes will be posted by the leader on the Connecticut Forest & Park Association Facebook wall www.facebook.com/CTForestandParkAssociation by Saturday morning.

Contact Mr Coopersmith at aaroncoop@gmail.com for additional information.
