Kenneth N. Fredrickson

Longtime Coast Guardsman Kenneth N. Fredrickson died of cancer August 20 at Madigan Army Medical Center, Fort Lewis, Wash., at the age of 47.

He was born in Bridgeport to Kenneth Norman and Elizabeth Marie (Bissonnette) Fredrickson. He married Michelle Ann Pulsifer on September 2, 1995. He was a graduate of Newtown High School, class of 1970.

He joined the Coast Guard September 6, 1976, and had attained a rank of E-7. At the time of his death, he was stationed in Port Angeles, where he had lived for the past four years. Prior to that, he had also lived in Newtown and Boston, Mass.

During his 24-year Coast Guard career, Chief Fredrickson spent more than six years onboard Coast Guard cutters. He was assigned to the Coast Guard cutter Active twice while the Active was homeported in New Castle, N.H. While assigned to Group Port Angeles, Chief Fredrickson worked on the Personnel Reporting Unit and as the Command Enlisted Advisor, looking out for the needs of all junior enlisted personnel.

Mr Fredrickson loved the Lord and was very active in his church, Grace Baptist Church in Port Angeles. He also was a member of the Port Angeles Chapter of the Chief Petty Officers’ Association.

Survivors include his wife and two sons, Zechariah Timothy and Isaiah Carl, and a daughter Rebekah Lynn, all of Port Angeles; his father in Newtown and mother-in-law, Susan Pulsifer, of Whitman, Mass.; brothers Karl of Waskon, Tex., and Kemper of Fair Haven, Vt.; brother-in-law Timothy Pulsifer of Whitman, Mass.; sisters Karen Miller of Dexter, Mass., Kristina Maddocks of Woodbury, Kirsten Dunleavey of Bethel, and Katrin Hall of Morris.

A memorial service was held August 24 in the hangar at Coast Guard Station Port Angeles, with Pastor David Stevenson officiating.

A memorial service will be held September 8 at 10 am at the chapel on the Coast Guard base formerly known as Otis Air Force base. The graveside service will be 11/2 miles down the road at 11:15 am at the National Cemetery in Bourne, Mass. There will be a reception at the chapel following the service.
