Landscaping Contractor Dies In Lawn Mower Accident

Police report that a man who was mowing a lawn at a Mt Pleasant Road residential property on Wednesday, May 30, died in a lawn mower accident.

Police said Angela Avila, 41, of Danbury was apparently driving a riding mower down a steep slope when the vehicle rolled over and landed on him.

The property, whose driveway entrance is near Mt Pleasant Road’s eastern intersection with Blackman Road, has frontage on Taunton Lake.

Police said that at about 8:55 pm on Wednesday, they responded to the property after receiving a report on the incident.

Avila, who was mowing the lawn with a highly maneuverable riding mower, apparently was by himself while working when the accident occurred, police said.

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed on May 31 at the chief state medical examiner’s office in Farmington, police said. The incident does not appear to be suspicious, police said.

Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters, ambulance corps volunteers, and a paramedic responded to the scene and spent two hours there.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The case remains under investigation, police said.
