Joan Iris Carpenter

Joan Iris (Ek) Carpenter, 79, of Monroe, died May 16, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Bridgeport, November 15, 1932, she was the daughter of Fritz Donald and Minna (Marr) Ek.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Earl Carpenter. She is survived by three siblings, including Ed Ek of Newtown; her loving children John Carpenter and Carol Ann Shearstone; son-in-law Peter; and her two beloved grandsons; and many nieces and nephews. One brother predeceased Ms Carpenter.

Before her retirement, she was a personnel manager at the former Tenax Corporation in Danbury for more than 25 years. She was an avid reader and loved to cook. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family

Her children would like to thank their Aunt Sonja for her loving care of their Mom during the past few months.

A memorial service took place May 24. Interment was at the Monroe Center Cemetery
