And Community
Barbara Eighmy Wylie, 82, of Wallingford, formerly of Redding, died at her home, April 12. She was born in Meadville, Penn., May 11, 1929, the daughter of Admiral Herbert and Maud Marie Leonard Eighmy. She was the devoted and loving wife of Thomas F. Wylie since February 2, 1952. They just celebrated their 60th anniversary.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Carolyn Cruson of Newtown; her three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and her brother and sister-in-law.
Mrs Wylie was a most caring person, one who always thought of others before herself. Upon the birth of their daughter, she chose to be a full time mother and homemaker, and was active in Girl Scouts and support of school activities. Later she continued her education at Western Connecticut State College where she earned a 6th Year Certificate in Teaching Sciences. She was then employed as a teacher for the Town of Ridgefield Board of Education for 20 years until her retirement in 1990. Her many activities in support of the Ashlar Village Retirement Community in Wallingford were formally recognized when she was recently honored as Volunteer of the Year.
A celebration of Mrs Wylieâs life will take place Saturday, May 12, at 11 am, in the Hartog Center at Ashlar Village, Wallingford.
Gifts in her memory may be sent to Colonial Williamsburg, PO Box 1796, Williamsburg VA 23187.
