First âDuchess of Dutchessâ
Sue Sylvia Bush, 94, a longtime resident of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., died July 10 at Putnam Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kent, N.Y. Survivors include her grandson-in-law John Grossman and great-grandchild Lisa Grossman of Newtown.
Born in New York City on May 9, 1914, she was the daughter of George and Rose Silverman Nathan. While living in New York, she owned and operated a deli and performed as a singer. Her other interests included poetry and cooking. In 1996, Sue was instrumental in orchestrating the first annual Senior Prom sponsored by the Dutchess County Office for the Aging. At the event, she was recognized as the first âDuchess of Dutchess.â
Mrs Bush was predeceased by Maximillian Bush, her husband of more than 50 years, in 1994. She was also predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and William Carboy, in 2000.
Survivors include her granddaughter, Gail Grossman of Bridgeport; her grandson, Randy Carboy and his wife Gail of Northport, Fla.; her great-grandchildren, Melissa Rockafellow and her husband Scott of Waterbury, and Heather, Matthew, and Scott Carboy of Northport, Fla.; her great-great-grandson, Jacob Rockafellow of Waterbury; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held July 14 at St Denis Cemetery in Hopewell Junction, N.Y.
