Occupation: I am a freelance writer and recipe developer. I work with Betty Crocker and Pillsbury. It’s very fun. I imagine new flavors and put them together and do a lot of experimenting at home. I’ve been developing recipes professionally for three or four years now. I started out as a journalist for the New Haven Register, covering in-depth police stories, and then started freelancing when my first child was born.

Family: I’m married to Shawn. He’s a retail store manager. We have two kids. William is 6 and Paige is 4 years old. They’re a lot of fun.

Pets: We have two 7-year-old beagles, Snoopy and Scrappy.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We’ve lived here for 7½ years. My family is originally from Newtown. I’m actually descended from the Beers family, and Sarah Mitchell was my great-grandmother. I grew up in New York, but I spent a lot of time here as a child, visiting relatives, so it was fun to actually move here.

What do you like to do in your free time? I have three blogs. My food blog is sarahscucinabella.com. Sarahcaron.com is my professional writing blog, about writing. Then there’s sassycloset.com, a design and style blog. I’m an avid reader, too, and I love cooking. Even though I do that for a job, it’s my hobby, too. And I love going to the beach.

Do you have a favorite book? Where do I begin? My favorite book of all time is Wuthering Heights, and my second favorite is Great Expectations. I love the classics. Allison Winn Scotch is my favorite current author. She writes modern women’s literature.

Do you have a favorite vacation destination? I love London. It’s my favorite city on earth. And any beach, preferably a warm one!

What is the best thing about Newtown? It has that small town feel that you don’t find everywhere. And you can’t go anywhere without running into somebody you know.

Who has been the greatest influence on your life? My grandmother, on my mother’s side. She was an amazing woman. She went after what she wanted, and had big dreams and goals, and met them.

Do you have a personal philosophy? You can do anything you set your mind to.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? Reality television! I get sucked into these things, like the chef’s shows. But it’s The Bachelor, of all things…
