Volunteers Needed To Help Construct

Second Treadwell Park Playground

The Newtown Lions Club and the Treadwell Park Committee are looking for volunteers this weekend and next to help construct a playground suitable for use by children aged 6 through 12 at Treadwell Park. A smaller playground, for younger children, that was destroyed by arson one year ago has already been replaced and is well used.

Now the problem is one of a labor force. The playground is scheduled to be constructed on two consecutive weekends, October 27-28 and November 3-4. On both weekends O’Brien & Sons, which markets landscape structures, will have three technicians on the site to direct construction. But there need to be many Newtowners involved as well.

“There are more than enough volunteers signed up for the first Saturday, October 27,” said Lion Gordon Williams, co-chair of the project. “We could still use a few for Sunday. But the following weekend, Novembr 3 anfd 4, we are really short. We only have seven people signed up for each day but we need more than 30 each day.”

Tammy Marks, the other co-chair, said that in addition to the people needed to help assemble, volunteers are needed to provide coffee, snacks, and lunch as well as babysitting services.

“If you can provide any of these helps or will organize a group to do so, we would like to hear from you,” she said.

To volunteer in any capacity call Ms Marks at 426-5333 or Mr Williams at 426-6443.
