Marion Krooss Purrone
Marion Krooss Purrone of Trumbull, 83, mother of Alan D. Purrone of Sandy
Hook, died November 3 in St Vincent's Medical Center. She was the wife of
Adolph Purrone of Trumbull.
Born in Winsted, she was a lifelong area resident. She was a library secretary
at Madison Junior High School. She was a Friend of Colonial Williamsburg for
15 years, a Friend of the 64th Regiment of Foot for five years, a member and
assistant librarian of the Middlebrook Junior High School Book Club. She was
also involved in the Trumbull education system as a volunteer and then
employee of the Middlebrook and Madison Junior High School.
In addition to her husband and son, she is survived by two other sons, Brian
Albert Purrone of Oregon and Christopher Robin Purrone; grandchildren,
Patricia Ann Abbott, Brian Albert Purrone, Jr, and Bradford D. Purrone; and
great-grandchildren, Justin Brian Abbott, Jacen Brantley Abbott, Jeremy
Benjamin Abbott, Jenna Brianna Abbott and Hayden Jeffrey Purrone; and several
nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on November 6 at 10:30 am in the Cyril F. Mullins
Trumbull Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road, and at 11:30 am in St Theresa's
Church, Trumbull. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
Calling hours were scheduled for November 5 from 4 to 8 pm.

Stanley W. Wyslick
Stanley W. Wyslick, 90, of Greens Farms, father of Stanley Wyslick of Newtown,
died Wednesday morning in Mediplex of Westport. He was the husband of
Catherine Przybisiki Wyslick.
Mr Wyslick was born in Fairfield, son of the late William and Catherine
Kowalski Wyslick and had been a lifelong Westport resident. He was a retired
chauffeur for the Bedford family.
Mr Wyslick was a life member of the Greens Farms Volunteer Fire Department,
and an honorary member of the Westport Kiwanis Club.
Mr Wyslick was also predeceased by a son, Edward Wyslick; a brother; and two
sisters.
Survivors, in addition to his wife and son include five grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will take place November 7 at 9:30 am in the Harding Funeral Home,
310 Post Road East, Westport, and 10 am in St Luke Church, 84 Long Lots Road,
Westport, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Assumption
Cemetery, Green Farms.
Calling hours will be in the funeral home November 6, from 5 to 7 pm.

Rita E. Carney
Rita E. Carney, 78, of Nunnawauk Meadows, Newtown, mother of Owen D. Carney of
Newtown, died October 31 in the Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late
Owen A. Carney.
Born in Waterbury, February 7, 1920, Mrs Carney was a daughter of the late
John and Iva (Burnette) McGowan. She was a resident of Newtown for 10 years
and a former resident of Bridgeport. She was a member of St Rose Church in
Newtown.
In addition to her son, she is survived by one sister, Bertha Sutak of Devon,
and four grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas F. Carney, a
Connecticut state police lieutenant who was killed in 1982.
Funeral services were held November 3 from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main
Street, Newtown, and St Rose Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment
was in Resurrection Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Josephine Stosuy
Josephine Michalski Stosuy, 78, mother of Nancy Rowe of Newtown, died October
27 in Tampa, Fla. She was the wife of the late Alexander Stosuy, who died
October 29, 1988.
Born in Amsterdam, N.Y., the daughter of the late Stanislaus and Sophie
Michalski, Mrs Stosuy lived most of her life in Schenectady, N.Y.
A homemaker, she was a communicant of St. Basil's Orthodox Church.
Survivors include another daughter, Nadia Hellen of Tampa; a brother, Stephen
Michalski of Iowa; a sister, Theresa Nowakowski of Amsterdam, N.Y.; and two
grandchildren, Adam and Christopher Rowe of Newtown.
Services were held November 2 from Leszczynski Funeral Home in Schenectady,
N.Y., to St Basil's Orthodox Church in Wateruliet, N.Y. where burial rights of
divine liturgy were chanted. The Rev Gregory Dudash officiated. Burial was in
St Basil's Cemetery in Watervliet, N.Y.

Patricia Calandro
Patricia A. (Grimm) Calandro of Shelton died November 2, after a long illness.
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 28, 1942, the daughter of the late
John and Rose (White) Grimm.
She was a Bridgeport resident for many years, moving to Shelton 20 years ago.
Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Ralph P. Calandro of Shelton; two
daughters, Debbie Palko and Christine Calandro, both of Shelton; a son,
Matthew Calandro of Shelton; two grandchildren; a sister, Betty Schempp of
Maine; five nephews, including Daniel Calandro of Newtown; and an aunt,
Margaret Shoemaker of Derby.
The funeral was held November 5 in St Joseph Church, Shelton. Interment was in
Mount St Peter's Cemetery in Derby.
The Parente-Lauro Funeral Home, Inc, 559 Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, was in
charge of arrangements.

Muriel Flood
Muriel Flood, 91, formerly of Heritage Village, Southbury, died November 3, at
Pomperaug Woods Health Care Center. Mrs Flood was the wife of the late Ivan
Flood.
Mrs Flood was born November 1, 1907, in Mamaroneck, N.Y., the daughter of the
late Herbert and Agnes (Yenny) Gedney. She was raised in Mamaroneck where she
was a member of the United Methodist Church and a volunteer at the Red Cross
Health Center. She received her BA from Smith College and her master's degree
from Columbia. She was past president of the Westchester Nursing Council and
was past president of the Westchester and Western Connecticut Smith Clubs.
She had lived in Pound Ridge, N.Y., where she was active in the Garden Club.
She moved to Southbury in 1975. Locally, she was a member of the North
Congregational Church and was a volunteer at the Southbury Library.
Mrs Flood is survived by a daughter, Nan F. Salamon of Danbury and her husband
Andrew; a granddaughter, Betsy Salamon Paynter of Newtown and her husband
Brad; and a grandson, Matthew Flood Salamon of New York, N.Y.
Calling hours were scheduled at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere,
235 Main Street North, Route 6, November 5, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A
memorial service will be held November 6 at 11 am at the North Congregational
Church, Main Street, Woodbury. A reception will be held at Pomperaug Woods
following the memorial service. Burial will be in the Greenwood Union
Cemetery, Rye, N.Y.

Jean M. Gasso Hoffman
Jean M. Gasso Hoffman, 73, of Bridgeport, mother of Denise Lovett of Newtown,
died October 30, in St Vincent's Medical Center. She was the wife of Edward J.
Hoffman.
Mrs. Hoffman was born in Bridgeport and had been a lifelong resident. She was
a World War II veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces. Survivors, in addition to
her husband and daughter, include; two grandchildren, Nora Kate Heuer and Sara
Lovett; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs Hoffman was predeceased by a
brother, John Gasso, and a sister, Kathleen Hungerford.
Graveside services were held in Mountain Grove Cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street & Gorham
Place, Trumbull.

Reinhard E. Cushman
Reinhard Edward Cushman, 88, of North Beach Drive, New Fairfield, husband of
Ella Benn Cushman, died November 1 at Mediplex of Danbury.
Mr Cushman was born in New Rochelle, N.Y. April 14, 1910, a son of the late
Gustaf and Clara Wolf Cushman.
He had been an insurance agent with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for
many years, retiring in 1973.
He had lived in New Milford from 1948 to 1968 when he moved to Newtown. He
later moved to New Fairfield in 1984.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, New Milford.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Edward R. Cushman of Ponte Vedra
Beach, Fla., and Raymond G. Cushman of Canterbury, N.H.; three grandchildren;
and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Roberta
Cushman.
Funeral services were held on November 4 in Trinity Lutheran Church, New
Milford. Interment was in Center Cemetery, New Milford.

Prudence Card Skiff
Prudence Card Skiff, 85, a retired social worker, died at her home, Nunnawauk
Meadows, Newtown, on October 29. She was the wife of the late Royal Perry
Skiff.
She was born in Bridgeport, December 9, 1912, daughter of the late Frederic M.
and Lillian (Courtright) Card. She graduated from the Junior College of
Connecticut in 1932 and Boston University in 1934, with a BS Degree in Social
Service. She was employed as a social worker for Connecticut's Child & Family
Services until her retirement in 1976. She and Mr Skiff were married on April
30, 1938, in Bridgeport, where they resided until moving to Newtown in 1957.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Newtown and a choir member for
20 years, and a member of various church committees.
Long active in Newtown Meals on Wheels for over 17 years, she served as a
driver until becoming a driver caller last year.
She was a member of Newtown Women's Club. An avid reader, she loved music,
enjoyed cooking and traveling throughout the United States.
She is survived by a sister, Doris Card Lee of Columbus, N.C., a nephew,
Frederic W. Lee of New Milford, a niece, Doris L. Bessette of Charlestown,
R.I.; three great-nephews; a great-niece; and a great-great-nephew.
A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Newtown, November
7, at 1 pm. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
Contributions may be made in her memory, to "Music at Trinity Episcopal
Church," 36 Main Street, Newtown, CT 06470.
Arrangements were by the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.

Larry D. Swartley
Larry D. Swartley, 63, of 205 Apple Lane, Roxbury, husband of Charlene
(Hoctor) Swartley, died October 30, at New Milford Hospital.
Mr Swartley was born May 1, 1935 in Garden City, Kansas, son of the late
Warren and Faye (Weiss) Swartley. Mr Swartley earned an engineering degree
from Kansas State University and worked as an engineer for Pepsi Cola for over
20 years, where he was responsible for establishing new plants all over the
world. He served in the Army for two years and had served in the Army National
Guard for over 20 years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Vernon L. Swartley, of Colebrook; a
daughter, Pamela A. Figueroa, of Annandale, Va.; two sisters, Marilyn Jones
and Judy Halfich, both of Garden City, Kan., and three grandchildren.
Funeral services are November 6 at 11 am at the Southbury Funeral Home of
Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main Street North, Route 6. Burial will be in the Center
Cemetery, Roxbury.

Frank Colacurcio
Frank Colacurcio, 81, of Milford, father of Frank C. Colacurcio of Sandy Hook,
died November 1 in Connecticut Hospice Inc, Branford.
He was the retired owner of Broadway Barber Shop on State Street, Bridgeport,
and a master carpenter.
Mr Colacurcio was born in Stratford and was an area resident all his life.
Survivors, in addition to his son, include four grandchildren, Frank C.
Colacurcio Jr., Kristina Colacurcio, Sarah Colacurcio and Cara Colacurcio; one
sister, Antoinette Colacurcio, and a nephew, Roger Colacurcio, both of
Bridgeport.
The funeral was held November 3 in the Parente-Lauro Funeral Home, Inc, 559
Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, and at St Augustine's Cathedral. Interment was
in Park Cemetery, Bridgeport.
