DUI Incident

Police said that at about 6:54 pm March 2, they saw motorist Stuart Hubbard, 43, of 55 Currituck Road, who was driving a 1997 Audi A-4 northbound on South Main Street, crossing into the southbound lane.

Police said they stopped Hubbard on Queen Street and gave him field sobriety tests, after which they charged him with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

After processing the case, police released Hubbard from custody on $100 bail for a March 16 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Lincoln Crash

Motorist Jesse Lee, 18, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1990 Lincoln Town Car southward on Hattertown Road at about 10:30 pm March 2, lost control of the sedan on the snowy pavement and then struck a tree alongside the right road shoulder, police report.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the accident to treat the injuries of front-seat passenger J.R. Heath, 18, of 91 Poverty Hollow Road, police said. Police issued Lee an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.

SUV Vs Minivan

About 6:45 pm February 27, motorist Lisa Ross, 39, of 100 Hattertown Road was driving a 2002 Dodge Caravan minivan on the northernmost section Hattertown Road, when a dark-colored sport-utility vehicle, which was traveling in the opposite direction, drifted into the Dodge’s lane and hit its left exterior rear view mirror, police report. The SUV continued onward without stopping.

Ross was not injured. Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact officer David Kullgren at 426-5841.

Hawleyville Burglary

Sometime between 4 pm on March 1 and 8:30 am on March 3, someone made a forced entry through a rear door at 133 Mt Pleasant Road, intruding into the building that formerly held Arthur’s Café, police report.

Nothing was stolen from the premises, but significant damage was done to the door and the door frame. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 426-5841 or at 270-8888.

South Main DUI

Police report that they were driving southward near 286 South Main Street at about 2:13 am March 5, when motorist Joseph Anderheggen, 23, of 235 South Main Street, who was driving northward, entered the southbound lane and almost collided with the police car.

Police said they stopped Anderheggen to investigate and performed field sobriety tests. Police arrested Anderheggen on charges of driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right.

After posting $50 bail, police released Anderheggen for a March 16 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Arrest

Police report that motorist Richard Pulver, 20, of 22 Washington Avenue was seen driving a 1988 Pontiac Firebird with a defective headlamp northward on Queen Street at about 7:50 pm March 5, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police said they found an opened package of beer within the Pontiac. Pulver was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, possession of alcohol in public by a minor, and failure to have a functioning headlamp.

Pulver was held on $500 bail for court arraignment on March 6, police said.

BMW Vs Nissan

Motorist Joseph Goodwin, 72, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2002 Nissan Altima sedan northward on South Main Street about 1:13 pm March 1, slowed the vehicle in order to make a right turn, police said.

Northbound motorist David Atkins, 49, of 3 Valley Field Road South, who was driving a 2004 BMW 325 sedan behind the Nissan, did not realize that the Nissan was making a right turn and then attempted to pass the Nissan on the right, colliding with it, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Atkins a written warning for passing on the right.

 

Boggs Hill Mishap

During snowy conditions about 8:23 am March 3, motorist Yvonne Kirsch, 36, of Fieldstone Drive, who was driving a 2003 Dodge pickup truck northward near 117 Boggs Hill Road, lost control of the vehicle on the snowy road and went off the right side of the street, striking some small trees, police report. Kirsch was not injured. Police verbally warned her for traveling too fast for conditions.

Pontiac Hits Sign

Motorist Jesse McGowan, 18, of Bethel was driving a 1996 Pontiac Bonneville eastward on Berkshire Road about 9:23 am March 3, and then turned right onto Bradley Lane, but skidded off the road and knocked down a stop sign, police said. McGowan was not injured. McGowan received a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Main Street DUI

Police report that at about 1 am March 4, they spotted a black Lexus sport-utility vehicle slowly traveling northward on South Main Street. The SUV then remained stopped at a green traffic signal at the intersection on South Main Street and Main Street, after which it went northward on Main Street, police said.

Police said the SUV crossed over the road’s center lines, after which it signaled a left turn before appearing to turn right, but then heading straight.

Police stopped the SUV to investigate and then charged its driver Patricia Breheney, 39, of 30 Mountain Manor Road with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and failure to carry a license.

After posting $50 bail, police released Breheney for a March 17 arraignment at Danbury Superior Court.

Acura Hits Tree

During snowy conditions about 5:18 pm March 2, motorist Barbara Borrello, 62, of 48-A Great Ring Road was driving a 2004 Acura MDX sport-utility vehicle southward on Great Ring Road, when she lost control of the Acura on the snowy road, skidded and then struck a tree alongside the right road shoulder, police said.

Borrello reported neck pain, according to police. Police said they warned Borrello for traveling too fast for conditions.

 

Nissan Vs GMC

During snowy conditions about 4 pm March 2, motorist Joseph Bailey, 63, of Westmont, Ill., who was driving a 2003 GMC Safari van eastward near 92 Church Hill Road, slowed the van, police said.

Eastbound motorist Danny Booth, 51, of 46 Washington Avenue, who was driving a 1995 Nissan pickup truck, then attempted to slow, but slid into the rear end of the GMC, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Booth a written warning for following too closely.

 

Botsford Crash

Police said that in snowy conditions at about 2:36 pm March 2, motorist Franca Menillo, 47, of Monroe, who was driving a 2004 Subaru Forester southward near 20 Botsford Hill Road, lost control of the vehicle and rolled over onto the right road shoulder.

Menillo experienced back pain, police said. Police verbally warned Menillo or traveling at a speed too fast for conditions.

Rear-Ender

At about 10:55 am March 2, motorist Paul Stirling, 40, of Avon, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck westward on Route 34, stopped and was waiting to turn left onto Toddy Hill Road, according to police.

Westbound motorist Claudio Beltrame, 47, of Danbury, who was driving a 1992 Nissan Sentra, could not stop in time and struck the rear end of the Chevrolet in snowy conditions, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Beltrame an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and driving without a license.

Snowy Roadway

Motorist Debora Amaral, 47, of Sao Paulo, Brazil, who was driving a 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara, was traveling northward near 191 South Main Street in snowy conditions at about 12:36 pm March 2, police said. Amaral then braked and swerved in order to avoid an accident that had occurred in front of her, police said.

Northbound motorist Thomas Goral, 36, of Southbury, who was driving a 1985 BMW 325, then skidded and struck the rear end of the Suzuki, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Goral for traveling too fast for conditions.

South Main Accident

Motorist Elizabeth Butrymowicz, 51, of Monroe was driving a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder northward on South Main Street in snowy conditions at about 12:02 pm March 2, as motorist Reese Bernal, 25, of Bridgeport was driving a 2006 Toyota Camry southward there, police said.

The Nissan then skidded on the snowy road, crossed the road’s center lines and collided with the Toyota, police said. There were no injuries. Butrymowicz received a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions, police report.

Hi Barlow MVA

About 11:35 am March 4, motorist Laura Rubinson, 45, of 11 Arlyn Ridge Road, who was driving a 2004 Toyota 4-Runner sport-utility vehicle, was involved in an accident with motorist Kerry Glover, 36, of 20 Hi Barlow Road, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Venture, police said.

There were no injuries in the collision, which occurred on Hi Barlow Road, police said. No enforcement action was taken because the right-of-way in the area where the crash occurred is unclear, police said.

Intersection Crash

Police report a two-car accident at the intersection of Hattertown Road and Castle Meadow Road at about 6 am March 3.

Motorist Robert H. Jordan, Jr, 55, of Bridgeport, who was heading northward on Hattertown Road in a 1996 Buick Regal, was waiting at a stop sign on Hattertown Road at its intersection with Castle Meadow Road, as motorist Paul Canale, 48, of Bethel, who was driving a 1992 Ford Taurus, was traveling southbound on Hattertown Road, police report.

While traveling on a curve in the road, the Ford crossed the road’s center line and collided with the Buick, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Canale a written warning for failure to drive to the right on a curve and for traveling too fast for conditions.

 

Altercation

On March 8, police issued a male student at Newtown Middle School a summons for second degree breach of peace in connection with a physical altercation that occurred at the school on March 2.

Police said the incident involved several students outdoors at the school, who were leaving early due to a snowstorm that day.

The unidentified boy is scheduled to appear March 27 in Danbury Superior Court.

Moving Violations

Police report that on March 8, they stopped motorist Daniel J. O’Donnell, 32, of 9 Dayton Street to investigate. Police charged O’Donnell with failure to display a marker plate and with driving while under suspension. After posting $250 bail, police released O’Donnell for a March 22 court appearance.

Snowy Road

About 2:52 pm March 2, in snowy conditions, motorist Patricia Schulze, 57, of Brookfield was driving a 2005 Honda Civic northward on Currituck Road, when she slid off the snow-covered road and struck a tree, police said. Schulze was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Walnut Tree Hill Road

Police report a three-vehicle accident in snowy conditions on Walnut Tree Hill Road about 12:15 pm March 2.

Motorist Steven Shaffer, 41, of 55 Walnut Tree Hill Road was driving a 2004 Chrysler sedan southward, police said.

Traveling northward there at the time were motorist Francis Cofone, 81, of 38 Elizabeth Circle, who was driving a 1999 Honda Civic, and motorist Malgorzata Grzybowski, 49, of 8 Old Green Road, who was driving a 2002 Subaru Forester, police said.

The Chrysler slid into the opposite lane on a curve, resulting in the three autos colliding, police said. There were no injuries.
