Mildred O. Fridy

Mildred O. Fridy, 88, of Brookfield, grandmother of Craig D. Smith of Newtown,

died July 3, at Candlewood Valley Care Center in New Milford. She was the

widow of Henry Fridy.

Born in Vermont, August 14, 1906, she was a daughter of William and Elsie

O'Donnell.

Before her illness, she had lived in Brookfield.

Survivors also include a daughter, Barbara Smith of Cookeville, Tenn.; six

other grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Private funeral services were held for the family. Arrangements were by the

Lillis Funeral Home, New Milford.

Mildred Fiorilla

Mildred M. Fiorilla, 69, a resident of Newtown for the past 18 years, died

July 2, at Danbury Hospital. A resident of Parmalee Hill Road, she was the

widow of James S. Fiorilla.

She was born in Newburgh, N.Y., May 15, 1926, a daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank

Bolander. Before moving to Newtown, she had lived in Norwalk and Redding.

Mrs Fiorilla was a member of the Newtown Senior Center.

Her survivors include three sons, Ronald W. Fiorilla of New Milford, James M.

Fiorilla of Redding, and Todd J. Fiorilla of Newtown; two daughters, Donna

Benefield of Hallsville, Texas, and Rosemarie Jenks of Sharon; a brother,

Robert Bolander of Southbury; a sister, Beatrice Kurensky of Cheshire; 14

grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Contributions in Mrs Fiorilla's memory may be made to the American Heart

Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford 06492.

Services were held the morning of July 6, from the Honan Funeral Home,

Newtown, to a Mass of Christian Burial at St Rose of Lima Church. Burial took

place in Newtown Village Cemetery.

William Colgate, Jr

William H. Colgate, Jr, 79, of Will's Road, Newtown, died June 30, at the home

of his daughter, Pamela Conboy of Woodbury. He was the husband of the late

Lorraine Bensel Colgate.

Born in Newton, Mass., March 13, 1916, he was a son of William and Evelyn

Pullman Colgate. He had been a resident of Newtown since 1963. He was a

graduate of Holderness Preparatory School in Plymouth, N.H., and attended Yale

University.

Last employed at Cheeseboro Ponds as a packaging engineer, he was a member of

the Society of Packaging Engineers.

He was a co-founder of the Southbury Jazz Society and a member of the United

Artists and Actors Guild.

Besides his daughter, he is survived by two grandchildren, Candice and

Benjamin Conboy of Woodbury.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Connecticut Junior Republic,

A memorial service was held July 5 at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street,

Newtown. Cremation was in Mountain Grove Crematory, Bridgeport.

Helen Scott

Helen Scott, 82, of Newtown, a hospital volunteer for many years, died July 3,

at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of Samuel H. Scott, and had lived on

Peck's Lane.

Mrs Scott, a lifelong resident of Newtown, was born August 7, 1912, a daughter

of Stephen and Mary Hersha Sedor.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Mrs Scott served as a volunteer

at Fairfield Hills Hospital for 32 years, and had also been a volunteer at

Danbury Hospital. She was a member of the Pootatuck Grange in Newtown.

Besides her husband, her survivors include two sons, Samuel H. and George A.

Scott, both of Newtown; a daughter, Nancy Slocum of North Carolina; three

brothers, Andrew and Michael Sedor of Newtown, and Paul Sedor of Wisconsin;

three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in Mrs Scott's memory may be made to the Trinity Episcopal

Church, Newtown; or to the Newtown Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 344,

Newtown 06470.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial services will be conducted at Trinity Episcopal Church at a date and

time to be announced.

Cremation will take place at Mt Grove Crematory, Bridgeport.

The Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, is in charge of arrangements.

Kathryn Carlucci

Kathryn Elaine Moulketis Carlucci, 47, of Stamford and Newtown, died June 30,

at her home.

Born October 10, 1947, in Stamford, she was the daughter of Estelle K.

Moulketis and the late Charles James Moulketis.

Having attended the Paier School of Art in Hamden, she was a tole and

street-scene artist who had developed a stellar reputation throughout the

state, working from her home studio. Her work has been exhibited in

Connecticut area craft fairs as well as at the Handcrafters' Haven in

Woodbury.

Mrs Carlucci was a member of Newtown Women's Club and has had numerous

articles featuring her work appear in local newspapers. She was one of several

Newtown area artists to have her street scenes exhibited on a quilt displayed

by the Newtown High School band during its appearance at this year's

Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena.

Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband, Leo J. Carlucci of

Newtown; two children, Dominick and Angela Carlucci, both of Newtown; a

brother, Thomas C. Moulketis of Stamford; a maternal grandmother, Rose

Pellicci Karukas of Stamford; several aunts and uncles; and several nieces and

nephews.

A funeral service was held June 5 at the Church of Archangels, Stamford, with

Mrs Carlucci's cousin, the Very Reverend James C. Moulketis of Wyckoff, N.J.,

officiating. Burial was in the Woodland Cemetery, Woodland Place, Stamford.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the

Church of the Archangels, 1527 Bedford Street, Stamford, CT 06905.

Lillian Reibl

Lillian M. Reibl, 55, a former longtime resident of Newtown, died June 28, at

her home in Wallingford. Born January 13, 1940, she was a daughter of the late

Carl and Elsa Halasz Reibl.

Miss Reibl had been a resident of Newtown since 1955, moving to Wallingford in

1990. She was a graduate of Newtown High School and Butler Business School.

After working for an accounting firm and the Connecticut Gift Shop for several

years, she retired due to illness in 1980.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs John Miller of Kittery, Maine, and Mrs

Clifford Hench of Wallingford; two nephews, Chris and Colin Hench, and a

niece, Sarah Hench, all of Wallingford.

A funeral service was held July 1, in the chapel of the B.C. Bailey Funeral

Home, Wallingford, with the Monsignor Wigh officiating. Burial was in the

Newtown Village Cemetery.

Helen Tessier

Mrs Helen Shortt Tessier, 71, sister of James Shortt of Sandy Hook, died June

25, at her home in Naugatuck. She was the wife of Armand L. Tessier.

Mrs Tessier was born January 9, 1924, in Southbury, daughter of Mary O'Neill

Shortt of Shelton and the late Henry Shortt. She retired from Southbury

Training School.

She was a communicant of St Francis Church.

She is also survived by four sons, Thomas E. Tessier of Watertown, Robert F.

Tessier of Hartford, Allen J. Tessier of Michigan, and Kenneth M. Tessier of

Burlington, Mass.; a daughter, Mrs Mallory Bagwell of Falls Village; a sister,

Mrs William Georgia of Shelton; two other brothers, John Shortt of Southbury,

and Edward Shortt of Englewood, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

The funeral was held June 29, from Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home to St

Francis Church for Mass. The celebration and eulogy were given by Mrs

Tessier's nephew, Reverend John Georgia, pastor of St Bernadette's Church in

New Haven. Burial was in St James Cemetery.

Ethel Crouch

Ethel D. Crouch, 81, a resident of Newtown for the past 57 years, died June

29, in Bethel Health Care Center. She was the wife of John L. Crouch of Walnut

Tree Hill Road, Sandy Hook.

Born in Bridgeport, May 12, 1914, she was a daughter of Henry and Martha

Overton Davis. Mrs Crouch was a member of the Newtown Congregational Church.

She is also survived by a son, John T. Crouch of Newtown; a sister, Anne

Bissonette of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Book of Remembrance, Newtown

Congregational Church, Newtown 06470.

There are no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held at the Newtown Congregational Church at a time

to be announced. Cremation will be in Mountain Grove Crematory, Bridgeport.

Nicolina DiMartino

Nicolina DiMartino, 79, mother of Salvatore DiMartino of Sandy Hook, died July

4, at her home in Ansonia after a long illness. She was the wife of Peter

(Pietro) DiMartino.

Mrs DiMartino was born on December 6, 1915, in Isnello, Sicily, Italy,

daughter of the late Salvatore and Rosa Cirincione DiMartino. A resident of

Ansonia for the past 32 years, she was a communicant of the Holy Rosary

Church, Ansonia, and a member of the St Ann's Society.

She is also survived by two other sons, Biagio DiMartino of Ansonia, Carmelo

DiMartino of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Antoinette DiMartino-Butler of

Woodbury and Maria Rosa DiMartino of Ansonia; a brother, Nicola DiMartino; a

sister, Giuseppina DiMartino, both of Italy; also three grandchildren and

several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Salvatrice

DiMartino, and two other brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held July 7 at 8:15 from the Spinelli-Malerba Funeral

Home, 62 Beaver Street, Ansonia, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9

am from the Holy Rosary Church. Burial will be in Mount St Peter's Cemetery,

Derby.

Calling hours are Thursday, July 6, from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home.

Contributions can be made to the Visiting Nurses Service or the Cancer Society

through the funeral directors.

Walter McMeniman

Walter L. McMeniman, 73, a resident of Newtown for the past 40 years, died

Saturday, June 3, at Danbury Hospital of complications from emphysema. He was

the husband for nearly 45 years of Anne Brisko McMeniman.

Formerly of Lowell, Mass., he was a graduate of Lowell High School and also

Suffolk University in Boston. He received post-graduate training at Simmons

College School of Social Work.

Mr McMeniman worked as a parole officer at the Danbury Correctional Institute

in early years and, later, was employed as a social worker by the state of

Connecticut until retiring.

He was a decorated Navy veteran of WWII, having served in the Pacific Theater.

He was a member of American Legion Post 200.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Martha McMeniman, and a son,

David McMeniman, both of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three sisters, Vera McMeniman,

Helen Smith, and Matilda Fournier, all of Lowell; a brother, Frank McMeniman

of Sudbury, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews in the Lowell-Boston area.

Contributions in his memory may be made to either the American Heart

Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford 06492; or the American Lung

Association of Connecticut, Western Connecticut Regional Office, 12 Byington

Place, Norwalk 06850-3392.

Services and burial were held in Lowell. A memorial service will be held at

Trinity Church in Newtown at a later date.
