Sally Jean Ross to Ryan Matthew Maurer

The engagement of Sally Jean Ross to Ryan Matthew Maurer, both of Fairfield, is announced by their parents.

The future bride is the daughter of Carole and Bill Ross of Fern Lane, Newtown.

The future groom is the son of Joanne and Bob Maurer of Adams Hill Lane, Newtown.

Ms Ross attended Newtown High School and graduated with the Class of 1994. She attended Western Connecticut State University and is a skin technician with Celeste Romig, MD, of Darien.

Mr Maurer also attended Newtown High School, graduating with the Class of 1994. He attended Southern Connecticut State University and is a consultant with Cendant Mobility in Danbury.

After college, Ms Ross moved to California and Mr Maurer moved to Atlanta. They kept in touch despite time and distance, and upon their return to Connecticut they fell in love.

The wedding will take place in September 2004 in Westbrook, at the Waterâs Edge Resort.

The voters certainly spoke — and I respect the outcome — but let’s not forget that a “majority” doesn’t mean everyone agreed. Many of us are deeply concerned about the rising cost of living here. Supporting schools and services is important, but so is ensuring that residents can afford to stay in the town they love. We all want Newtown to be a great place to live, but lately, it’s starting to feel less like “Nicer in Newtown” and more like “More Expensive in Newtown.” That’s not sustainable, and it’s not a criticism of the town itself — it’s a call for responsible budgeting and long-term planning that doesn’t rely on tax increases year after year. I hope future decisions will reflect not just the desire to maintain services, but also the need to ease the financial burden on residents.
