Jewish Federation Of Western CT To Host Yom HaShoah Remembrance
SOUTHBURY â On Sunday, April 15, at 3 pm, the Jewish Federation of Western Connecticut will hold a Yom HaShoah Commemoration program to remember those who perished during the Holocaust. Special keynote speaker Professor Harry Reicher, University of Pennsylvania and Touro Law Center, will give a presentation titled âWhat will it take for the World to Learn? From the Holocaust to Darfur.â
The event will be held at the Walzer Jewish Family Community Campus at 444 Main Street North (Route 6).
Prof Reicherâs presentation will explore the history of international human rights laws. In 1948 the world made a promise to never forget the horrors and lessons of the Holocaust by adopting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. However, the system has struggled to prevent the massive loss of human life and the infliction of pain and suffering in countries like Cambodia, Sudan (Darfur), Rwanda, and the Congo. The presentation will include archival footage.
In addition, the program will spotlight a Holocaust memorial photo exhibit by students from the Waterbury Arts Magnet School from their European Conflict Tour. The student councilâs tour of Holocaust memorial sites was partially funded by the Foundation of the Jewish Federation of Western Connecticut.
There is no charge to attend this communitywide commemoration.
