To the Editor:

Hello from Georgetown University. As I immerse myself here in the master’s program of bio-physiology, I have enjoyed reading about my fellow Newtown High School alumnus Chris Lyddy and his reelection race for Newtown’s state representative.

When I read about Mr Ferguson’s idea to retain student residents in Connecticut, I couldn’t help but shout out…hey…Chris Lyddy is already working to make it happen. Chris Lyddy specifically proposes to provide Connecticut math and science students who stay and work in Connecticut for a period of time reductions in college tuition. This is a great incentive for students, as well as for pharmaceutical, medical, and engineering businesses in Connecticut. Education is a great method for growing Connecticut out of its deficit and restoring the state to its prior leadership position in innovation and education. How do I know that this is such a great idea? Because as a potential medical student, I would love to return and attend a Connecticut medical school, study here, live here, and go into practice in my home state. I know friends that would have liked to do the same in their fields of math and science, too.

Chris has always been a leader. As a graduate of Newtown High School (and University of Pennsylvania), he makes Newtown High School proud, he makes the faculty proud, he makes the alumni like myself proud, and he makes Newtown proud! Keep it up Chris, you’re doing a great job.

Sincerely,

Tara Gaston
