Saab Vs Pole
Police report that motorist William H. Kelchner III, 47, of Brookfield was driving a 2004 Saab 93 sedan northward on South Main Street at about 5:15 pm June 3, when while he was watching another vehicle on the roadway, he attempted to make a right turn onto Mile Hill Road, but the Saab then struck a utility pole along the right side of Mile Hill Road.
Kelchner was not injured. Police said they took no enforcement.
Intersection Crash
About 7:43 pm on June 3, motorist Theodore Jones, 83, of Bethel, who was driving a 2001 Buick westward on Mile Hill Road, stopped at a red traffic signal and then attempted to make a right turn onto northbound South Main Street, police said.
While attempting to make the turn, the Buick was struck by motorist Erin Faurote, 16, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2006 Honda northward on South Main Street, according to police.
There were no injuries. Police issued Jones a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
Volkswagen
Motorist Jillian Logan, 21, of 185 Brushy Hill Road, who was driving a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta sedan northward near 103 Brushy Hill Road about 8:34 pm May 28, encountered a deer that ran out onto the road, police report.
The auto and the deer collided. The deer ran off into the woods. Logan was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Church Hill Crash
Police report a two-vehicle collision on a section of Church Hill Road near Interstate 84âs eastbound Exit 10 ramps at about 7:06 pm June 1.
The accident involved motorist Albert Robinson, 50, of Wallingford, who was driving a 2000 Buick Century sedan, and motorist Gloria Guallpa-Iema, 22, of Danbury, who was driving a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder SUV, police said.
There were no injuries. Police gave Robinson a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Nunnawauk Meadows
About 5:15 pm June 4, an unoccupied parked 1987 BMW 325 sedan, which was parked at Nunnawauk Meadows on Nunnawauk Road, rolled into the side of a building there, damaging the building, police report. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
Highway Ramp
State police report that motorist Maura Gissen, 19, of 35 Horseshoe Ridge Road, who was driving a 2000 Audi A-6 on westbound Interstate 84âs Exit 10 on-ramp at about 3 pm June 1, was negotiating a sharp left curve on the ramp and the vehicle then spun out, striking some metal-beam guardrailing.
Gissen was not injured. State police issued her a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Door Damaged
Sometime between 1:30 and 2:41 am on June 8, someone damaged a door at The Firehouse Bar & Restaurant at 75 Glen Road in attempting to illegally enter the building, police said.
The incident caused about $500 in damage to the premises, police added. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the attempted break-in to contact Officer William Hull at the police station at 203-426-5841, or via email at william.hull@newtown-ct.gov.
Mazda Vs Audi
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the four-way-stop intersection of Hanover Road and Schoolhouse Hill Road at about 5:21 pm May 31.
Motorist Jacqueline Norvell, 60, of 2 Twist Hill Lane was driving a 2006 Audi A-6 sedan eastward on Schoolhouse Hill Road and then stopped at a stop sign at its intersection with Hanover Road, police said.
At that time, motorist Henry Helgren, 16, of 30 Rock Ridge Road was driving a 1994 Mazda MPV southward on Hanover Road, according to police.
The Audi resumed moving and proceeded eastward through the intersection, but was struck by the Mazda, which did not stop for a stop sign, police said.
Norvell and Audi passenger Rebecca Mahlahlane, 29, of 25 St George Place were transported by ambulance volunteers to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.
Police issued Helgren an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.
House Entered
Sometime between 7:30 am and 4:30 pm on June 7, someone illegally entered a house on the western section of Pond Brook Road. The person entered the building through an unsecured rear window and stole a Dell-brand laptop computer, police report. Police ask anyone with information on the burglary/larceny to contact them.
DUI Arrest
Police said they responded to a report of a vehicle parked on a lawn with an âunconsciousâ driver inside that vehicle, near 7 Edmond Road at about 2 am on June 11.
Police said they found Robert Phillips, 18, of 11 Fawnwood Road sitting in the driverâs seat with the engine running. Police said they woke up the sleeping Phillips to investigate, after which they charged him with driving under the influence. Phillips was released on $100 bail for a June 25 court appearance.
Pedestrian Warned
Police said that following their investigation into a May 12 accident, which involved a sedan and a pedestrian who was crossing Main Street in front of Booth Library, they verbally warned the 14-year-old male pedestrian for reckless use of the highway by a pedestrian. No enforcement was issued to the vehicleâs driver, police said.
Police have said that the pedestrian was attempting to cross from the east side to the west side of Main Street, as the motorist was driving a 2001 Mercury Sable sedan southward on Main Street.
The pedestrian was crossing the road on foot and then struck the left exterior rear-view mirror of the Mercury, police have said. Ambulance volunteers transported the pedestrian to Danbury Hospital for treatment. The accident occurred in an area where there is no crosswalk.
Ford Vs Chevy
About 7:27 am on June 1, Armando Ferreira, 51, of Bloomfield, who was driving a commercial 2005 Ford F-550 truck southward on South Main Street, stopped in preparing to make a left turn onto Simm Lane, police said.
Mark Purell, 47, of 17 Bennetts Bridge Road, who was driving a town-owned 2000 Chevrolet Astrovan southward, then stopped behind the Ford, police said.
The Ford then backed up, striking the front end of the Chevrolet, after which the Ford stopped, police said. The Ford then backed up again, striking the Chevrolet again, police said.
There were no injuries. Police gave Ferreira a written warning for unsafe backing.
Wet Pavement
About 4:30 pm June 6, motorist Alexander Calder, 17, of Brookfield was driving a 2002 Ford Ranger pickup truck northward on Hawleyville Road, near its intersection with Mt Pleasant Road, when he lost control of the vehicle on the wet road, crossed over the centerline and went off the left road shoulder, striking some curbing, police said.
Calder was not injured. Police gave him an infraction ticket for traveling too fast for conditions.
South Main Street
About 9:05 am on June 5, motorist Elizabeth Lucas of 10 Reservoir Road, who was driving a 2003 GMC Yukon SUV southward near 87 South Main Street, stopped and was waiting for traffic when the GMC was struck from behind by a southbound 1986 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Nicholas Hespelt of Monroe, according to police.
There were no injuries. Police issued Hespelt a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
DUI Arrest
After receiving some motoristsâ reports that a vehicle was spotted traveling in the wrong direction at the Exit 11 ramps for Interstate 84 late on the morning of June 12, town police informed state police of the situation.
Town police said that the driver of the vehicle that had been reported traveling the wrong way at the highway later appeared near the intersection of Wasserman Way and Trades Lane.
Police said they investigated and then charged motorist James Freel, 40, of Fallston, Md., with driving under the influence. Police released Freel on $1,000 bail for a June 25 court appearance.
DUI Case
About 2:24 am on June 13, police were dispatched to a one-vehicle accident near 72 Hawleyville Road.
Police said they found that a vehicle driven by Andrew Tolley, 20, of Southbury had gone off the pavement. An investigation resulted in police charging Tolley with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn.
After processing the arrest, police released Tolley on $50 bail for a June 29 court appearance.
Mailbox Mayhem
Sometime during the evening of June 11, multiple mailboxes were vandalized on Surrey Trail, Settlers Lane, Turkey Roost Road, and Kaechele Drive, police said. Police are seeking aid from the public in solving the cases of criminal mischief.
Too Fast
Police report they detected that motorist Gary Seri, 45, of 32 Jeremiah Road was driving 46 miles per hour in a 25-mph zone on Meadowbrook Road about 9 am June 8.
Police said they charged Seri with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving under suspension. Seri was released on a written promise to appear in court on June 24.
Truck Hits Bridge
About 9 pm June 7, Justin Hannum, 28, of Oswego, N.Y., who was driving a tractor-trailer truck eastward on Botsford Hill Road, collided with the low-clearance Housatonic Railroad rail freight bridge above the road, police said.
Police said Hannum told then that he was using his vehicle navigation system to travel through the area and did not notice the low-clearance warning signs near the bridge before the collision occurred.
Ambulance volunteers transported Hannum to Danbury Hospital for treatment of arm/leg pain, police said. Police verbally warned Hannum for failure to obey traffic warning signs.
South Main Impact
A two-vehicle accident occurred on South Main Street at the traffic signal at the northern entrance to Sand Hill Plaza about 11:30 am June 11.
Motorist Eileen Ridolfi, 45, of Trumbull was driving a 1997 Toyota northward on South Main Street, as southbound motorist Robert Schmidle, 83, of Echo Valley Road, who was driving a 2009 Lexus, was waiting at a red traffic signal there, according to police.
For an unknown reason, the Toyota crossed into the opposite lane and collided with the Lexus, police said.
There were no injuries. Police gave Ridolfi an infraction for making a restricted turn.
Three Vehicles
A three-vehicle accident occurred on Toddy Hill Road at its intersection with Sugarloaf Road about 11:13 am June 8.
Motorist Robert Ecsedy, 84, of 52 Hattertown Road, who was driving a 2009 Nissan Frontier pickup truck southward on Toddy Hill Road, slowed for traffic conditions, after which southbound motorist Ryan Pasko, 17, of 24 Poplar Drive, who was driving a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck, stopped behind the Nissan, police said.
Southbound motorist Andrew Bouton, 17, of 14 Deerfield Drive, who was driving a 1999 Jeep Wrangler SUV, then struck the rear end of the Dodge, pushing the Dodge into the rear end of the Nissan, police said.
There were no injuries. Bouton received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Railroad Property
Police report that at midday on June 13, they spotted some illegal use of railroad-owned property near 42 Swamp Road in Botsford.
Police said that Robert Zenko, 49, of Monroe was riding an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on railroad property and that two youths under age 18 were riding off-road motorcycles there.
Police said they issued Zenko an infraction for trespassing on railroad property and verbally warned the two youths. Police did not disclose the youthsâ identities due to their age.
Moving Violations
Police report that they stopped motorist Rita Selleck, 23, of 8 Fox Run Lane on Glover Avenue for motor a vehicle violation that they had noticed on South Main Street at about 5:14 pm June 14.
Police said they charged Selleck with failure to have a front marker plate, driving with a suspended vehicle registration, and failure to have automotive insurance.
Police released Selleck on a written promise to appear on June 24 in Danbury Superior Court.
School Bus Crash
Police report that Leema Jackson, 35, of Stratford was driving a school bus carrying seven passengers northward on Berkshire Road (Route 34), just north of Great Quarter Road, about 3 pm June 14, when Jackson swerved the bus in order to avoid striking a rock located off of the roadway.
The bus, however, struck that rock, left the roadway and then struck an even larger rock, police said. There were no injuries.
Police said that the school bus, which is owned by St. Vincentâs Special Needs Center of Trumbull, carried seven passengers ranging in age from 14 to 48.
Police said they issued Jackson an infraction for making restricted turn.
Vandalism Investigated
Sometime between 3 pm on June 11, and 10 am on June 14, someone damaged an earthmoving vehicle, known as an excavator, which was parked near the intersection of Hanover Road and Boulevard Extension, police said. The vandal threw a rock through the excavatorâs windshield. Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact Officer John McCluskey at 203-426-5841.
Intersection Accident
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Walnut Tree Hill Road about 8 am June 14.
Motorist Marinete Conway, 46, of Danbury, who was driving a 2004 Honda Element SUV eastward on Church Hill Road, was attempting to make a left turn onto northbound Walnut Tree Hill Road after the driver of a westbound noncontact vehicle on Church Hill Road signaled for the Honda to make that left turn, police said.
As the Honda was making the left turn, the Honda was struck by motorist Jana Hammond, 29, of 18 Pine Street, who was driving a 2003 Subaru Legacy station wagon westward on Church Hill Road, police said. When the accident occurred, the Subaru was passing stopped westbound vehicles on the right, police said.
Police said that Hammond told them she thought that Church Hill Road has two westbound lanes in that area.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Hammond an infraction for passing on the right, and also verbally warned Hammond for failure to carry a vehicle registration.
DUI Charge
Police report they stopped motorist Danielle Danka, 19, of 1 Crown View Drive on Black Cherry Lane at about 10:05 pm on June 15 for a motor vehicle violation.
Police said that after investigating, they charged Danka with driving under the influence, possession of alcohol in a motor vehicle by a minor, and failure to drive to the right.
Police released Danka on $1,000 bail for a June 30 court appearance.
