Free Caregiversâ Course, Love & Knishes Being Served Up
SOUTHBURY â Caring for someone who is chronically or seriously ill can take an emotional and physical toll on relatives. Caregivers rarely get time to themselves and are often burdened with trying to figure out their family memberâs physical needs.
A four-week caregiversâ course, hosted by Brownstein Jewish Family Service and Regional Hospice, will focus primarily on caregiver burnout, emotional issues, community resources, introduction to durable medical equipment, and the physical needs of patients such as how to safely transfer or even bathe your loved one without injuring your back.
There is no cost to attend this program, which is facilitated by Carolyn Wolfe, MSW. The Caregiversâ Course takes place on four Thursdays, June 4, 11, 18, and 25, from 10:30 am to noon at the Jewish Federation, 444 Main Street North.
In other news, musicians and a motivational speaker will be lifting spirits at the Love & Knishes Lunch Program at noon on four Tuesdays during June. All area adults age 60 and better are invited to make reservations to enjoy lunch and programs in the Jewish Federationâs social hall at 444 Main Street North.
Hundreds of guests are welcomed each month and come together for delicious dining, friendship, and fun entertainment. The award-winning Jordan Caterers of Cheshire prepares the bountiful and healthful hot lunch each week, which is served at noon, followed by entertainment at 1 pm.
*On June 2, singer/guitarist Larry Ayceâs show Around the World will feature songs about different places.
*On June 16, singer/songwriter Willie Nininger of Southbury will perform a concert of his original songs. Willie is well-known as a great folk humorist and amazing flat-pick guitar player.
*The June 23 program features Connecticutâs body language expert Carolyn Finch in âMotivation â The Key to Success During Tough Times.â She will present five simple steps to overcome crisis and move ahead.
