Willing To Pay For Safety
Willing To Pay For Safety
To the Editor:
When my husband and I, as newlyweds, moved to Newtown in 1962, the last thing on our minds was how children were transported to school every day.
In 1975 when our older son was ready for kindergarten, we were pleased to learn that the buses were owned and driven by our local residents.
Over the many years that our children attended Newtown schools we never worried about their safety on the buses because we knew their drivers were well trained and very cautious with the lives of our children.
The drivers for our sons were Charlie Rudolph and Al Karcheski. Better men and drivers we could not have asked for.
How many bus companies can attest to the safety record and dedication of their drivers? None that we know of!
Saving money at the risk of Newtownâs childrenâs safety is a terrible suggestion. I for one would be willing to pay for keeping owner/driver transportation available to our students even though our sons long ago rode these buses. We wish our grandchildren in Florida and New Hampshire had these dedicated and safe drivers to drive them to school every day.
Please donât change something that has worked for so many years.
Sincerely,
Milda and William Kolesar
