What is your favorite spring flower, and why? Asked at Lexington Gardens.

Kate Pratt with Elizabeth: I like lilacs for the color and smell.

Kathy Doornbosch: Bleeding heart. They have perfect arching branches with heart-shaped flowers. They thrive and are just perfect. The deer don’t eat them.

Laura Dicksen: Lilacs but I can’t grow them in California, where I’m from. I love the fragrance and the color.

Jennifer Miller: Gerbera daisies. They look like a happy flower.

Susan Kokoska: Hyacinths. I love them because they smell so nice.

Robert Ferguson: Japanese tree peony. It’s got a huge flower, eight inches across, either white or scarlet. It blooms early and grows five feet tall on a single woody stem.
