A Job Well Done

To the Editor:

Warmest congratulations to the Lyddy team, family, and friends. What a wonderful victory!

I have known Chris Lyddy for several years and have great admiration for him. My confidence is high as he heads to Hartford as Newtown’s voice. He will be superb. His seemingly boundless energy and intuitive sense will be refreshing in Hartford.

There is another person to whom I would like to offer a giant pat on the back and a standing ovation — Sarah Hemingway, Chris’s campaign manager. It has been my great pleasure to work with Sarah, in many capacities, since she was in middle school. A hunch tells me that some national campaigns could take a page or two out of the Lyddy/Hemingway playbook! It would be difficult to imagine how they could have thought of anything else to add to their strategy. The strength of organization was a sight to behold. The personal touch of going door to door to speak with residents and listen to their questions or concerns; the phone calling efforts; the creative mailings; the identification and follow-up of and with potential voters; and, finally, the momentum of getting those people out to the polls. Not to be overlooked in all this excitement is the fact that Sarah is a senior in college! Somehow, in her usual calm way, she managed to maintain her college schedule, run a campaign, throw some sleep in for good measure, and stand on the victorious side of an inaugural state office run. Sarah Hemingway is an extraordinary young woman! Her future is limitless. I am certain there is nothing she could not attain once she has set her course.

Kudos to you, Sarah! A job exceptionally well done.

Sincerely,

Roseanne G. Loring
