A Golden Anniversary For St Rose School

St Rose of Lima School marked its 50th Anniversary with a celebration Mass and alumni reception on Sunday, October 12. The landmark event was attended by Bishop William E. Lori and included a first look at the school’s spacious new wing. Bishop Lori led a Mass to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary at noon on Sunday, which was followed by an outdoor reception.

Two former pastors, Monsignor Kohut and Monsignor Birge, as well as a number of other clergy who served in the St Rose parish through the years, all accepted the invitation to the afternoon’s celebration. Representatives from the Diocese as well as some former faculty members and principals were also present.

St Rose’s pastor, Monsignor Robert Weiss, was presented with a plaque dedicating the school’s new science lab in his name.

Another highlight of the event was the unveiling of the new St Rose School crest, which was designed by St Rose alumnus Shane Blomberg. The 20-year-old graduated from St Rose School in 2002 and is now a sophomore at the Savannah College of Art and Design majoring in industrial design.

“As alumni look back on the past, it seemed fitting to ask a young alumnus like Shane to help his fellow alums pass the torch to the next 50 years by creating a new symbol that reaffirms the school’s mission,” said Stephanie DeBartolomeo, who coordinated the design contest. “Together with the new facility, the school crest shepherds in the new look and new future of St Rose School.”

The event was co-chaired by Ana-Cristina Herrick and Marilyn Imbimbo, and catered by Orlando and Meg Soto of The Cook and The Baker Catering. Ellen Curran and Marilyn Imbimbo spent months trying to locate as many St Rose graduates as possible, “an incredible task,” said Monsignor Weiss in his Message from the Monsignor on October 12.
