New Head For Newtown Post Office
New Head For Newtown Post Office

Iris Dena is very excited that one of the 2008 holiday stamps issued by the United States Postal Service features nutcrackers. The new officer in charge of the Newtown Post Office on Commerce Road has collected nutcrackers of all shapes and sizes for more than 30 years, including 100-plus miniature nutcrackers that decorate her tree every year. A six-foot-tall nutcracker soldier stands at attention in her home year around, as well, she said.
Already, the Newtown Post Office branch bears her mark, with a three-foot-tall nutcracker posted on the main counter, a revolving music box nutcracker chiming a soft melody in her office, and more nutcrackers on the way as the season gets underway.
Ms Dena took on the new position of officer in charge in Newtown on Monday, October 20, and is delighted to be here, she said. The Trumbull resident was most recently officer in charge in Ansonia, and prior to that served as supervisor of deliveries in Bridgeport, and managed five retail stations there for over three years.
âI started with the postal service in 1996,â said Ms Dena. âMy postal âhomeâ is Stamford, where I started as a carrier and then became an instructor.â
As the new officer in charge until a permanent postmaster is assigned to Newtown, Ms Dena said that she will first be looking into resolving any issues affecting businesses and residential US Postal Service users, and improving service to customers. âIâm here for customer service,â said Ms Dena, âto help people get the service they have come here to get. My main concerns are for my carriers to come back safe every day, and for my customers to get the service they pay for.â
