Medical Meetings Discuss Pandemic Flu, Disaster Preparedness

DANBURY — Danbury Hospital Medical Town Meetings for the month of November will focus on pandemic flu and community disaster preparedness, advances in treating lung cancer, and new developments in the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. The meetings take place at in the John C. Creasy Center for Health Education auditorium from 7 to 8:30 pm. The schedule is:

November 5, “Community Disaster Preparedness & Pandemic Flu — Do You Know What To Do?” Andrew McGuire, director of emergency management at Danbury Hospital, and Gregory Dworkin, MD, Chief of the Section of Pediatric Pulmonology, Department of Pediatrics, will focus their presentations on delivering proactive planning steps that encourage individual and community disaster preparedness before a sudden emergency or public health event.

November 6, “On Target in Treating Lung Cancer.” Michael Cohenuram, MD, oncology/hematology, The Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital, Abhijith Hegde, MD, Department of Medicine, Section of Pulmonary Medicine, physician member, Danbury Office of Physician Services, PC. and Stuart Sherman, MD, Department of Radiology, will present updates on the latest targeted therapies in the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer that use chemotherapy, radiofrequency ablation, and endobronchial ultrasound. Patrice Hough, RN, MSN, will facilitate the evening program.

November 18, “Update on Alzheimer’s Disease.” Samuel Markind, MD, Department of Medicine, Section of Neurology, practicing physician, Associated Neurologists of Danbury, PC, discusses new developments in treating Alzheimer’s disease and will report on the progress of current research studies.
